Does anyone know of carburetor schematics.Have major vaccum leak throwing off timeing.Carboretor is a rochester.Found place that rebuilds them but I have what looks like two missing hoses.Ports above fuel filter has no hose on it.Then there is a line that goes to electric choke that has a screw pluging it up .Any ideas or what to look for would be great. Thanks a head of time.Bill 77

Well, I'll try-but I'm about 12,000 miles away from my Q-jet collection...

The port directly above the fuel filter is used to "enable" your emissions devices. I believe the one directly over your fuel filter/inlet goes directly to your TVS (thermal vac.).

Do you have your emissions devices hooked up? EGR, AIR, TVS, etc.? Do you need to, or are you exempt? The "plugged" line to your "electric" choke doesn't make sense...:confused. I'm thinking you may have had a "hot air" choke and it has been converted to electric. If so, you can just plug the 2 pipes coming out of the intake that would feed the hot air choke-or, run a tube to connect them.

Someone having fiddled with the choke also alerts me that the plastic vacuum tube and associated seals around the choke housing may have been tampered with. My suggestion here is to get a carburetor kit from NAPA, and carefully look over the Assembly Instructions. It will, give you a fair idea of the choke housing and components. If this is a new area for you, try to find a friend or someone that has done these late 70's/early 80's Q-jets-they are kind of a bear but really quite efficient and effective, once dialed in.

Don't lose hope and squander a bunch of cash on a new carb. Depending on how many miles your carb has, it may be quite salvageable, and these were tuned specifically to the application. I like Q-jets-they DO work. Just need patience and practice...:)

Good luck.

Bill,

Do you have the assembly manual for your car? It has a diagram of all of the vacuum lines for the 77 in it. If not, let me know and I'll scan and post it for you.

As Rick indicated, the one on the front of the carb goes to the tree on the thermostat housing. It can be capped off with a plug bought at the auto part stores.

Bill sorry it has taken so long. There were two diagrams. #1 has a diverter valve. #2 does not. Mine was #2. #1 may be for am L-82. I understand that they had more emissions stuff on the car.

Bob Thanks looks like just what the doctor ordered.I wont have a chance to look at until weekend .Will let you now how i make out. BILL
