I used carfax to purchase a car and found that it isn't any good. The car I bought had been wrecked to the tune of about 12,ooo dollars and their was no record of the accident. I tracked it back to the original owner and insurance company and found out that neither the insurance company or the owner had reported the accident. I was lucky in that i had my attorny get the dealer to take the car back. The car was a 2001 Lincoln with 11,000 miles and looked ok but a month later troubles started and when I took it back is when I found out it had been wrecked.

So just as a warning you can't trust anything but a complete check of the vehicle you are intending to purchase.
