First off-- thanks to everyone who has responded to all my previous questions. With all your help in my first few months of ownership I've replaced the oil pan gasket, rear main seal, oil pump and drive shaft, front transmission seal, intake manifold gaskets, header gaskets, shocks, alternator, water pump, starter gear, coil, ignition, plug wires, kill switch, brakes, and tires.

My latest project on my 69 is to replace all the vacuum hoses and the plastic oil pressure gauge line. I finished the engine compartment and have removed the dash and center console. Now that I have that console removed I also want to fix as much as possible-- new vacuum hoses, power window switch, replace vent cables, etc. My car is a non-AC convertible.

Question 1: I see I have two small light bulbs under the center console, but I'm not exactly sure where they should go. Does one light mount under the temp control console so you can read the dials? What about the 2nd? Do they both turn on with the headlights & dash lights?

Question 2: Before I put everything back together I'd like to test the climate control system. Anyone have a quick explanation as to how it should work? Or how the different actuators/vents tie in with the two climate dials? It looks like the temperature dial has a short control cable going to a vent. But how does the other dial work? I can see there's an actuator under the dash on the passenger side, and possibly another actuator to operate the rear convertible vents.

I have the Chevy Service manual but couldn't find a good theory of operation.

Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy

Mine is probably a little different but....

On my 72 one of the lights clips onto the side of the cigerette lighter, and the other lights up the A/C controls.

The light that clips on the side of the cigarette lighter-- what is it actually lighting up? That's the light I haven't quite figured out where it goes yet.

The lamp for the cigar lighter actually fits into the side of the 'hole' the element fits into. When the car lights are turned on, the cigar lighter lamp illuminates the 'hole'. It is rather faint, but it illuminates the hole enough to help you place the element back into it when the car interior is dark. With the lighter in place.....you do not see any illumination.

Regards......one very happy 70 owner.

Thanks. No wonder I've never noticed that light before-- I don't think I've ever removed the cigarette lighter while it was dark out.
