hey,

i was thinking of painting my calipers red. I've seen it on other vettes and love the look but not sure if I should, any opinions?

Jeff

By all means, do it!! I painted the calipers on my Grand Sport last year, and they look awesome!:) I think the touch of red would be perfect on the silver Collector Edition!:_rock

Take a look at my avitar if you would like... i also have one pic that sort of shows the red brakes on my CE.

All I used was red rust-oleum paint. I brushed it on with a small brush. they look great, i get comments all the time.

Vettelt 193,

Can you please give me specifics of your wheels (not the tires)? They look very good and they also expose the brake calipers... What are the sizes for front & rear, and what is the manufacturer? Will those be okay for a 95 Coupe???

vettelt193, how did you deal with the white letters on the caliper and what did you use to clean the surface befor painting

thanks

My wheels are factory collector edition wheels. you can get reproduction wheels from AFS through eBay for a very good price (although I am not sure if they will ship to your location). Since I have Z51, I have all 4 wheels the same size 17 x 9.5 inches, with 275/40/ZR17 tires.

You can do two things to deal with the lettering. the letters are not actually white (at least they weren't on my car) they are bare metal. You can actually peal the paint off of the letters as the paint dries with your finger nail. because the edge is nice and sharp, it pulls off very clean. you can also sand it off.... the other option is to get a paint pen (silver, white, or whatever color you want) and paint the letters over after you paint the whole caliper.

Now, don't tell anyone, but on my Vette I have one side with bare metal letters, and the other side done with a silver paint pen. You can't tell the difference from far away (even just standing) as to which side is which. there was a bit of a learning curve with the painting:)

I cleaned them up with a degreaser before painting. i used simple green, but you can use whatever one you like
