Charging problem on my 65 Vette

I have 65 Vette with a 69 camaro 427 in it. The motor was rebuilt about a year ago along with the alternator. It was working perfectly and it just seemed to stop charging. It was sputtering and the lights started to go dim as it clearly was a charging problem. The motor just quit. The battery is good. If I boost it, it will run until the battery is drained. I had a spare voltage regulator and tried that.
No Luck.
I hooked up a voltage meter and it was about 12 and dropped as the power of the battery was draining. I have taken the alternator in and get it back in a few days, but i am thinking it can also be a bad ground.

Does anyone have any experiences with this?

Any help would be appreciated. I am new the the collector Vette thing. Only had it a month and IT IS AWSOME!!!!!!!

Thanks

Sounds like a bad alternator - you're running off the battery. Is the ground wire in place between the base of the voltage regulator and the radiator support? If the regulator isn't grounded (it's mounted on non-conductive fiberglass), it won't work.
