Trust me, I am more than suspicions of all three of these guys than I need to be. I just wanted to get others opinions.

I can't possibly see a dealer selling a vehicle to the public at prices below what he could get at a Wholesale Dealers Only Auto Action!!

And they ain't buying them to lose money on!!

GMJunkie -I think that you hit it. That is so logical - it only goes to show how easily it is to get fooled.
It seems that there are those who use the poor ecomomy/need for cash to disguise their underhanded ways.
It is like the GTO, Yenko and other cars that are somewhat easy to cosmetically fake.
I also understand that it is not uncommon to replace/setback the speedo.
.......like years ago.

I've called AFC (Automotive Finance Cooperation) and told them I was going on a Corvette buying spree,to be ready with the Cash!!
I've had the truck fueled,serviced and ready to roll for 6 days!!
I've SS&S'ed 6 times over the last 6 days so I'm ready!!

I guess this is just another simple case of a ...........................

I've been looking into C5 Z06's myself. Got rid of the '88 and would like something more modern and advanced.

With the GF talking about a ring, I don't know if a C6 is something I could get away with at this point.:L

I've seen the C5 Z06 prices all over the place. Seen a Z16 go for $28,500 with 5,600 miles.

It looks like they're selling in the average ballpark of $25,000 or so.

I've been doing the exact same thing. Been thinking about unloading one of my Firebirds. I'm torn between a newer Z06 or a 70-71 BB.

My dilemma is that I think the C6 ZO6 will become very affordable in the next two years.

Well, that and I think that 405-430 (base C6) horsepower is plenty enough for my needs.

My neighbor insisted that I drive his C5. I was kind of disappointed by it. It seemed like the car wasn't that much better, ride quality wise, than my '88. The seat belts were the same!:eyerole

But his was an automatic, obviously not a Z06 so I would have to try a Z06 before I decided to rule it out.

I've been looking at C6's as well. The prices are coming down by a lot but if their refinement doesn't justify the cost over the C5 (of which there are a lot of low mileage vehicles around), I couldn't see getting a C6.

And don't even get me started on finding a non-Z06 with a true manual 6 speed and not that paddle shift crap.:ugh

These sound waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too good to be true.

Wasn't there a big kinda' hurry cane down those parts? Think that may just have something to do with it?

If .... if .... I could get a Z car at those prices ... legit I mean .... I be down there in a flash. For the last year I've been pizzing and moaning about why I didn't just buy a "Z" in the first place and for the last few months between wheels and "cold air kits" .... my eyes have been blood shot just trying to "buy" like thirty or forty hp's for a thousand bucks.

IMHO ... car fax .... can be a joke as can "legit" ...... "state titles", there are a dozen ways to get around a flood or salvage title.

My kid was just out looking at 944's and stuff like that (non turbo) ... or Saab from the early to mid 90's .... and they were all holding at a firm $6,000 .... for cars round the 100K mark and ...... a low/to mid mileage Z06 for $10 to $15,000 ..... looked at an old Alfa GTV that needed two injectors ..... $4,000 .... this Obama economy is doing some wacky stuff to the auto market? Could it be the ....... "Kash-Fer-Klunkers" or something?

There are some things most people aren't aware of and it takes a good and seasoned set of eyes to spot the flaws and repaired areas that would escape even the best of eyes.

Those "orange" lights on the dealers lots ... "ain't fer' nothin' ... and the wave length of the light tends to mask variation in paint from repairs.

Had a buddy point out once that a truck I had bought was a front "clip" .... he was a Nissan dealer and noted that the "goop" or sealant on the fender panels in the front was not "stock" and that a few of the bolts were not "factory stock" as well.

He pulled his truck next to my truck and started to point out all of the subtle points ...... things that he, as the manager and evaluator, was trained to spot before they took in trades.

If you can find someone like this to take a look ..... especially prior to spending that much money, it's $50 to $100 well spent.

Had one mech put the car on the lift and came back with a few different serial numbers ...... the car (an MB wagon) ..... was sold as black but this wagon was white and it was not a repaint ... the mileage varied on a few occasions dealer to dealer. It was just when car-fax was starting out (so they can be of some use) .... and the car seemed to move state to state a few times (one of the ways to send the title through the laundry) ... and the "dealer" was a close cousin of Tony Soprano.

Get a good independent mech and have that buggy put on a lift and "vetted" out (old spy term but it fits) ....

Get someone from the forum to recommend a mech and if the other party blinks or flinches at an inspection ...... run like hell .... :W

This just doesn't wash with me..... granted you can find deals at dealerships if your timing is right. Get the car right before it goes to auction and you can steal them....

Do these have salvage titles? Rebuilt wrecks? Theft recoveries? Reposessions?

My advice ... do a carfax and find the history and stay away from any of the above.

Interesting thread. I was looking at getting a c4 94-96, but I just could not find one near me that was in good shape for a good price. It was either "just sold it" type thing or 300 miles away.

I really want a c6 07 or 08, but I would have to sell my g35 and I really love that car--so smooth and carries my 2 lil ones in the back.

With the declining c5 z prices, I could fill my need for vette-speed and keep my G. I wanted to look at this 2001 Z with 56kmi, silver, red/blk non-worn seats for $18,900 asking price. When I called he had already sold it and autotrader was still listing it. It was stock with new tires, brakes, clutch, no accidents/paint work/non-smoker. Had the wife's approval to proceed too:bash
The 2001s seem to be the greatest deal as you save thousands (provided no oil consumption issue I heard about for 2001s)and.....you only give up 1/10th sec to 60 (4.0 vs 3.9--assuming perfect driving and conditions)and maybe 2/10 in 1/4 mi (12.6 vs 12.4)and other than the z06 badge cosmetically looks identical to 2002+ z.

I hear that the 2002+ was under rated and has actually 425hp at the crank as shown by numerous dyno runs. Does anyone know if the 2001 is similarly under rated and actually has 400 or 405? The performance #s tell me this seems likely? N E 1 know 4 sure?

The plan would be to drive it 3 yrs and pick up a mint 2006 Z and add OEM GM carbon fiber for the center console/ac/radio area.
What scares me about this is if it takes 1 yr to sell my c5, but I'm getting way ahead of myself.

Well, that brought back a memory from the "dark ages". When I was in my 20's you had those "Aut-O'-Trad-R" type weekly mini-mags that came out and were like $1.25 and had all of these "hot deals" but of course, jus' like bass fishin' ....... "Ya' should have been here yesterday man they were jumpin into the boat"



My wake up call ..... that I suspect ..... kept these mags selling was that you had a bunch of your buddies list their cars in this case it was a Dino 206 or 308 ..... 1966'ish Ferrari. You called and it was some pizza shop and when "Tony" came on the line there was always a story ... otfl:eyerole

There was one Porsche 912 like that too ...... always a story behind it ... but like the Swallows coming back to Capistrano ..... those buggers would be listed again in a month or two.l

If it's too good a deal .... like many posters indicate ... it's prollaly a "tribute Z" or was under 5' of muddy when the mighty Mississippi let loose.

OK, I did get a few deals over the years but they sure got a lot of my crisp dollars and shiny quarters though! Had to drive to the Whiteface area of New York but I did get a fair price on a set of 8 spoke mini-lite type (they weren't the real deal) for a "Porsche" 914 and ..... a real cheap Alpine Systems back pack.
