Hey,
on my 01 i was out driving today and I noticed that there were three messages to check the abs, traction and active handling.. anyone know why all three would come on all at once.. i was out driving normally and nothing to my mind could have caused it (such as a pothole, wasnt accelerating hard etc.)..

Anyone have any suggestions??

Andy,
The short answer to your question is that I don't know. But we can help diagnose, which might be particularly helpful for Paul (C4C5Specialist) when he finds this thread. At the top of this forum is a thread we've made "sticky" on how to pull codes on your C5. Have tried seeing of you have any active (or, for that matter, history) codes which may provide an explanation?

That happened to me, too. I cleared the codes, then they came back after a while. I ended up having to have the computer module that controls all that replaced. It was not cheap, but I had an service contract that paid for it. If I remember correctly, it was $1000-$1200, but I am not really sure.

We had ours replaced. It was under factory warranty.

Before you go out and spend a large amount of cash on the EBTCM, do yourself a favor and check and clean ALL the grounds, then unplug, inspect and clean the EBTCM connector plug. The grounds to pay particular attention to are the G101 and 102 packs under the hood on the frame rails. Unbolt, seperate, clean, re-connect and bolt back down. The 2 in the rear (401 and 402?) can be seen from the rear wheel wells.

Good Luck.
As a note, on the C5's there is so much electrical stuff, that when you get seeminly unrelated, intermittent issues, its almost invariably, electrical and the bulk of those issues are ground related.

Me too. They replaced the EBCM- it was covered under the extended warranty.

Is there any codes? These messages are the first thing you will see if any of the grounds or if any of the sensors, like wheel sensors or steering wheel position sensors is going bad. It could be as complex as the EBTCM module or as simple as a bad wire.

I had that problem and it took me only a small screw driver to give some ‘spring’ to the female wheel sensor harness connectors. See pictures on my web page.

My friend had the same series of error messages. The dealer told him he had to replace the wheel hub bearing. I took the codes and it was complaining about left wheel sensor. I think that was C1228. I took the ohms with my digital voltmeter and found that the hub was fine. Remove the EBTCM connector and took the ohms at connector. I found that when I was moving the harness at wheel, I was loosing the ohms, therefore, only the 2 feet harness was bad. I switched the 2 feet harness with the other side. And the code switched to the other wheel. He bough a new 2 feet harness and problem was fixed. You will see the harness I’m referring to on picture 5 (Front connector. Wheel side. ) & 6 (Front Connector. Harness side. ) of the picture on my webpage.

An other of my friend got this message on his 2002 Z. Took the codes and that was the steering wheel position sensor. He had it replaced. Every thing is fine since then.

An other of my friends got the same series of messages on his 2001 Z last week. We looked at the codes and it was complaining about the steering wheel sensor. Since it append only once, I told him to live it like that and we will start trouble shooting only if it appends again.

What I want to say, is that each time something with one of the ABS-TC, the car will show all the same message on the DIC, Service Active engine, Service Traction Control, Service ABS. It will illuminate the TC and ABS light on the control panel and disable TC and ABS.

You need to read the codes and post them and we will try to help further.

I had this problem on my 02. The DTC gave me a C1214. I took it to the dealer, and they ended up replacing the BPMV under my extended warranty. Info for you guys, the BPMV (Brake Pressure Modulating Valve) is the hydraulic portion of the ABS assembly. The EBTCM (Electronic Brake Traction Control Module) mentioned above is the electronic portion of the assembly, and they bolt together, and sit on the frame near the steering rack. As mentioned, bad grounds and loose connections frequently cause this problem, too.

... adding a picutre to your good description....

Circle in Purple is the Pump or BPMV (Brake Pressure Modulator Valve) and Pump Motor circle in Yellow is the EBTCM Circle in Green is the pump Ground Circle in Blue is the EBTCM connector

My 03 C5 sat in the dealership for 5 weeks waiting on the back-ordered BPMV and EBTCM recently... it was the longest period I've gone without my vette.:mad
