Anytime I try to check the oil hot it is smeared all over the dipstick and I can't tell the level only that the bottom hole has oil in it. My 2001 uses a quart about every 2500 miles and has 30,000 on it,should I get it worked on under warrenty as I only have 6000 miles left. I check the oil level cold and can get a good reading but the book says check it hot. Lyle

Hi there,
Your usage is normal per GM service guidelines. 1 quart in 2k is normal, and will not harm the engine or its controls.
What I usually do, is to roughen the surface of the dipstick with a little fine Scotchbrite. This will give you a clearer reading on the oil level.
Also, make sure to be aware, as long as the level is in the crosshatch area, you are fine. You will never be able to always see it at the full mark, due to internal draining and baffles within the engine.

I have a 2001 quicksylver coupe m-6 and it has about 6k miles on it. I have added 2 1/2 qt. since it first oil change. I know it is not supposed to use that much oil, I figured that it has just started useing it as I have just now started driving it aggresive. I am going to take it in to the dealer and have them aware of it and we can start watching it together so if it is indeed a oil consumption problem they will be ready to fix it.

I think your oil usage will get better as you run the oil longer between changes as mine did. I would watch the level but not add till it is down a full quart as in the past I have cars use that first half quart and no more.
