I found this interesting from Noland Adams regarding Chevron Techron F.I. Cleaner:

I saw the references to Chevron's Techron, and I will try to describe this product without sounding like a commercial. About 19 years ago I worked as a technician at the Chevron Chemical plant in Richmond, California. We made and packaged all sorts of agricultural products under our brand name Ortho. The Chevron Oil refinery about one mile away began making a new product; Techron. It was designed to dissolve and thus remove deposits from the valve and valve stem areas. There were no packaging facilities in the refinery, so a tank car full of Techroline (Techron concentrate) was moved via rail about a mile to our packaging plant.

At the time I was maintaining the eight liquid chromatographs in the production laboratory. Samples of every batch of this new product Techron came in for analyzing. After testing, about 1/3 of the 20 Oz. bottle of Techron was left. I took it out to my four cylinder car and poured it in the gas tank in hopes that it would stop its tendency to stop running-on (dieseling). After a couple of treatments it began running better; after about 4 partial bottles it ran great. But, as a side effect, all of the crud removed from the engine plugged the catalytic converter solid! I felt that was good proof that the product worked.

As a technician, my skills were required in many places. I got over to the Techron filling line every week or so. The process was to connect a rail tank car up to a mixing tank; a measured amount of Techroline concentrate was transferred, then mixed with a solvent to produce Techron. I saw long rows of 20 Oz. bottles of Chevron Techron "Gasoline and Diesel Fuel Additive" being filled.

I got a chance to visit the Chevron Research Facility about 1985 or 1986, as mentioned by Jim Lockwood. As an employee, I had full rein of the place. I saw the actual parts they had used in the TV commercials showing the effectiveness of Techron. I already knew it worked, but seeing the research was really eye-opening.

On my next visit to the Techron filling line I saw different colors of
bottles. I asked the operator, and was told the Techron formulae had not changed, but we were selling the product to other folks. Besides Chevron bottles, Techron was put in the following 20 Oz. bottles: GM Port Fuel Injector Gasoline Detergent, group 8.800, part 12345104. 2) GM Goodwrench Port Fuel Injector Gasoline Detergent, group 8.800, part 12345104. 3) Autobahn Gasoline Additive, part ZYW 246001, distributed by Volkswagen. 4) Saab Injector Cleaner, No 45-3022100. 5) Mopar Fuel Injector Cleaner P/N 4318007.

It's been years since I worked there, so there's no telling what brands they're selling it to now. The process for getting Techron to the gas stations is simple. After the tank truck has its tanks filled, a larger (bigger then 20 Oz.) bottle of Techroline concentrate is dumped into each tank: usually one bottle is enough. By the time the truck gets to the station to dump its load, there is now a mixture of Techron throughout the load.

Originally formulated to dissolve buildup around valves, this stuff can also keep injectors clean. I don't blame John Degregory for not trusting gas additives. I just proved that you cannot trust the product by the name on its bottle, and some of the additives are not good for the rubber or neoprene parts in our fuel systems.

Although I am a retired Chevron employee, I have nothing to gain by distributing this information. Just trying to inform everyone about this product. It should be noted that Chevron gas costs a bit more than most gas, but that's probable just to make a profit.

Cheers, Noland Adams

I never knew Nolan worked for Chevron too. :upthumbs

Now watch, people will take heed of this now beause Nolan Adams said it, although I stated the very same thing here many times, although maybe not so eloquently. Oh well, good guys always finish last. :eyerole
