This is my first post; This is a great site; I have a 94 with 45000 miles on it, I bought my vette four years ago, the car is near perfect in and out, except for the chime, that only works when the interior temps are high. When the chime dose work it's only for a short time, this creates a problem of trying to find its location. The local dealer was no help, he told me that most people unhook them anyway, and that they are fairly expensive, and wasn't sure where it was located. So if any of you can help feel free to CHIME in.:L

I first moved this to New Member Introductions, then noticed your question, so I moved it again (leaving a redirect in the New Members forum) to the C4 Technical forum. Now you'll twice as many responses. :CAC

It's called a Seat Belt and Ignition Key Alarm and it is located behind the Driver Information Center (DIC) but you have to remove the dash pad to get to it (not that bad to do). It is velcroed to the top of the PKE module. Don't know how much they are, but the p/n is 25518745 if you want to check with the dealer. I didn't find it at gmpartsdirect.com but they may be available from time to time on eBay. Someone may CHIME in here with another source such as a vette salvage place.

If it's only working in warm temperatures, I would suspect that the connector is corroded at the contacts. Unplug it, clean up the contacts and put some elecronic grease on the contacts. Hey, it's worth a try.

My mom's '90 Riviera had the same problem, and the dealer gave her the same routine. $250.00 for a new module. I fixed it in about 20 seconds.
It amazes me how many dealers can diagnose a problem without even looking at it.:mad

Welcome to the :CAC ! Lots of help here for all kinds of problems.

Thank's to All. This sounds like a nice project for a cold February Saturday in Pa. I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Welcome to CAC, this is the best information site on the net that is for sure. Or if you just want to talk about Vettes it is also great. The members are for sure the best there is. :)

Take care and don't froget the wave,
Bill :w
