Just recently my choke light has refused to go out. I checked voltage at the alternator and its a healthy 13 + volts. when i unplug the wire leading to it, it obviously goes out, i checked and theres voltage there as well. Is this a problem with the choke itself?? My dad told me earlier today that he unplugged the wire the other day cause he was curious as to what it was. Do i need to reset something??

If you're getting 12 volts at the choke connector, then use an ohmeter to check the resistance (ohms) of the choke itself. Just put one end of the meter to the terminal, and the other end to one of the rivets in the plastic body of the choke. The OEM choke should measure out at 3.5 ohms at room temperature. Some aftermarket chokes will measure out at 10 ohms. Chances are that you may have no reading at all-meaning that the choke heater has failed.

Last resort possibility...

-the '80Vettes have a Choke-relay deviously located very stealthfully within the center-console proximal the drivers/right-knee, if someone had the console apart there is always the possibility that one of the several wires connected to the Choke-relay may have been dislodged; --which would indeed result in the dash Choke-light staying-ON! You might well check-out this possibility my friend, as i found mine was entirely missing (always the chance that Bubba has been there before you)....

Thanks

Gonna check out both of these scenarios and take it from there.
