I'm swapping carbs. going smaller to a 650 Holley dp what would happen if I left the choke off I have a electric choke now on my 750 and I have to pump it a couple of times to start then I have to hold the idle up to warm (not working?)

I have a 650 dp on my '73. When I got the car the choke wasn't working and it was a ***** to start. Fitted a new choke and fixed the fast idle mechanism and it starts a whole lot nicer.

Of course, you're much further south than me, so perhaps a choke is less important.

I bought my car in Florida last year and it wouldn't hold idle without stalling until it warmed up. Thought I would adjust the choke and to my surprise it had been removed and I noticed the manifold heat risers were wired shut. New carb w/electric choke and a pair of wirecutters to open up the heat risers and it runs beautiful. All this leads me to believe that this whole topic is very climate specific.

Thats kinda what I was thinking, mine doesn't seem to be working anyways
