Alright, all of you guys who swear by using the CLAY BAR to remove
water spots, please chime in. I'll start by admitting, this is my first time using CLAY. What's the correct way to use this stuff?;shrug I followed the directions to a "T" on the "SMOOTH SURFACE Clay Kit" by Meguiar's. I found the clay very hard to "wipe or slide across the hood of my "94. Most of the time, it adhered to the surface. Suddenly, it began to roll-up like dough. I almost wanted to make some biscuits! Oh yeah, the water spots are still there. These water spots have been pretty-well burnt in the surface for at least 3 to 4 years. Please Help. THANKS ALL.:beer

I don't know about clay bars removing water spots, but I swear by them for prepping the car's finish before waxing or polishing, whichever you prefer. I think water spots need a different treatment.

About your clay bar "adhering", did you make sure you kept the surface of the car totally wet? It should have just glided over the surface, and you should stretch the clay bar and fold it into itself, giving another part of the clay bar to use.

I'm going to move this post to the Care & Detailing section where I think you'll get more answers.

If it's acid rain spots been there for 3-4 years, your going to need more than a Clay bar!!Maybe a 2000 sand and Buff!!:upthumbs

I use a spray bottle I purchased at the dollar store, adding 1 cap full of a good car wash soap to a bottle of water. Using this solution will keep the surface wet and just slick enough for the claybar to glide without sticking.

You also want to claybar in the shade or at least when the surface is cool. If the surface is hot, your lubricant will evaporate too quickly.

I would tend to agree with the Junkman, if those spots have been on there for that long, they probably have etched into the clearcoat. It may require a sanding and buffing.
