I need to plan my spring cleaning. How long does it take to claybar the entire car - would I have enough time in a day to do that and at least 2 coats of Zaino?

Thanks, Bob

It took me about 1 - 1 1/2 hours to do a black 82 which never saw a claybar before.

Yes, that's plenty of time Bob! The most important part is to work in small sections and keep it moist the whole time. Good luck!

Bob, you can "feel" when you're done with each area. Like Barbie said do it in small sections. When I did mine the first time, like you I had no idea how/how long to do it, and I spent about 2 hours doing the clay bar. The Zaino took about 45 minutes/coat.

Great - thanks for all the advice. I will get to work just as soon as I can find a day, or at least a long afternoon.

Thanks, BOb

You are going to freak when you get a few coats on that Torch Red. I went off the deep end and put 3 5s, 3 2s following each with z6 spray. That was last year and now washing with Zaino it looks just like when I finished.

Great stuff. I bought the ultimate Z8 and will try it soon. Can't get enough!

I too am planning to claybar my Black 87....and I think it is its' first...although my paint is pretty shiny...I expect great results in some problem areas.

Also anyone ...do I break off peices of the claybar to use...or do I use the whole brick and keep kneading and turning it over. Also..not to hijack this thread...how many vehicles could 1 Claybar do....I have my 87 and two new cars.....2 yrs & under that may benefit...that arent awefully dirtybut I'd like to claybar anyway. Thanks

I broke off a chunk about the size of a half dollar and about 1/8" thick and used that, rather than the whole thing. Because if you drop it on the ground/floor you need to throw it away. But just continue to kneed it and keep plenty of lube on the area, and I think you'll see a big improvement. The "newer cars" will benefit from it as well. I have 1 bar and I have done the Corvette twice, the wife's old car, her new car, my pickup, and various parts of friends cars showing them what clay bar does, and still have a large chunk.

If you drop a piece, throw it away immediately.

Hi guys.....

The paint on my car needs something...After I claybar the car..Whats the next step with the ZAINO? What do I buy?????

I used the Z2 and the Z5. I can't tell a lot of difference between the two, one is the swirl reducer, but on white paint swirls aren't really an issue. With a darker color that would be impertant.

Thanks Guy...I do appreciate!!

Be sure to wash the car with Dawn to strip off the old wax so the claybar doesn't have to take off the wax before hitting the dirt in those micro scratches. The bar made my 21 year old paint look like new!

here's my car...the white paint on this thing may look ok..but when u get up and close and run your hand on it..it's about as gritty as sandpaper.....Their are sooooooo many products out their....I've tried a few and i guess I'll go the ZAINO route.

Thanks..

Andy

I use Zaino products on my ’96, love the product.

When it comes time to apply the polish, you may want to use masking tape to block your driver and passenger door handles as well as the top edge of the black plastic air dam.

Zaino does not leave a white powdery residue, but, it’s a precaution I take to keep me from accidentally applying product to them.

Oh, I have been Z'ing for a long time - just never claybar'd. The finish when I got her was in very good shape, but now I want to try the next step.

YUP..Thats my '76..That pic was taken in a local mall for a corvette show we have 2x a year..pretty cool to ride your vette in a mall!! Thanks for posting.....My Greenwood Daytona is a '79. This post has really helped me. I called my Zaino dealer yesterday...I am at least willing to try this product...The Yellow 76 looks pretty good, its the '79 we have thats in "need".

i'm going to give zaino a try. i even made myself a step by step list of instructions for the entire process, including clay bar, zfx, z2,z5,z6,z7. i'm looking forward to being able to detail my car... after stitches come out and i can use my right hand again that is.:)

andy - post pix of your '79 when finished. i bet she'll look great.
