What is the best way to keep your engine bay clean on a Corvette? I know using water around the opti-spark is a no-no. Is there a good product out there that is useful in doing this?

I use the castol Purple clean stuff.I dont have the opti spark to worry about so I just spray it on and hose it off.,You may have to do it by hand.Afterwards try using some stuff called engine detailer. You should be able to find it at the parts store. Its like thick silicone in a spray can.

I use my air compressor to blow off most of the dirt and dust.
Then I use a bottle brush with a degreaser/cleaner like Simple Green and brush the rest of the area - drying is done with the air compressor again.
Then I wipe down everything I can reach.

My OptiSpark is 11+ years old BTW.

It's Simple

Simple Green and good cloth rags (no fuzz from paper towels) and take your time. An air compressor also helps get the stuff you knock loose and cant reach well. That is all I used to take a daily driver to three 1st places and one best of show. And while some may not think it manley, a good pair of rubber gloves sure makes cleaning yourself up afterward easier!

I feel your pain.
I have a 96. Optispark and all.
Engine had NEVER been cleaned since new.
Lots of dirt, grime, sand, etc under the hood.

Started out with a cotton rag. Wiped off all the surfaces and hoses. Then hit it with air compressor. Then the rags again. Then air again.

THEN magic happened.

Product is called Trim and Shine.
Made in Poplarville, MS.
Sprayed that on all plastic and rubber parts and with no scrubbing, it makes them look brand new!

The underside of the hood and the wheel wells were done with Castrol Super Clean and more rags. Boy was that filthy, Those rags never came clean, they are now in the trash. After a few treatments with the Castrol purple bottle. I hit the underside of the hood with STP son of a gun foaming Tire Cleaner. Spray it on, let it activate and start running. Wipe off with more disposable rags before it drips on the ground or wheels.

Have underside of the hood looking this it was repainted!

I have only started on the engine bay with one cleaning. PUlling wheels when i get in new garage and really getting it clean in there!
