Purchased 1st vette last week and wanted to know best cleaning supplies for the car , also seems to always be smuges on winshield no matter how much I windex it , please help !!!!!!

Hi there GROOVEYGOULDIE- welcome aboard.

I moved this to the Care & Detailing section, where you can find lots of good information about cleaning and detailing your vette.

I don't much care for windex- I like a product called Invisible Glass, which I like to use a crumpled up newspaper to apply. I am by no means an expert though.

Tammy

There are a lot of good companys that offer a complete line of products.

I have my favorite but everyone needs to evaluate a few products for themselves. You should do some research on the internet on the products that various people use and why they like them. Just about any exterior product will give you immediate results. I look for protection and durability (in that order).

My favorite glass cleaner is the plain label brand of Sprayway glass cleaner and a 70%-30% polyester microfiber towel. I also keep a window polish and some #0000 steel wool around for tougher problems.

I like Meguir's products myself. I agree 200% with Tammy, Invisible Glass is so much superior to Windex, IMHO. It's made by Stoners, and can be bought at Pep Boys and the like.

No matter what cleaning supplies you choose, just remember to make sure that what ever you use on the body doesn't contain any petroleum products.

Oh Yeah, welcome aboard!!!!

THANKS MAN BOUGHT IT ALREADY , WHAT A DIFFERENCE, TAMMY RULES THANKS AGAIN

I also bought meguires nxt carwash and nxt tech . wax, also wanted to try nano wax heard alot about it so i bought both used tech wax on sat. so nano will have to wait till next time how often do you wax your car also got 303 protectant also great no greasy feel looks like car was just purchased new, nice how about a wheel polish guys & gals anyfeed back on this where i bought the car they said just use soap & water but the chrome shine is just not there and some water spots are apperant any one have chrome rims they clean with a polish ??????

That's great that you got good results with the Invisible Glass. I, too, learned about it here :upthumbs

I recently tried the Meguiars NXT wax product, and was pleased with the ease of application and wipe-off and the luster when I was done. I must emphasize that I am not one of those people who has tried all the products and waxes all the times, so again take my recommendation with a grain of salt.

I found something very nice for wiping off the wax after it dries- a box of 100% cotton eyeglass cleaner wipes that I got at lenscrafters. They are about washcloth-sized, very soft and lint-free, and after you use both sides you just throw-em away. I also tried them for the Invisible Glass as well as cleaning the leather, wiping down the interior trim... they are great. I just never liked throwing away any kind of towels, and I didn't feel good about washing them and reusing them either.

Don't know about the chrome wheels. I recently polished the chrome exhaust tips with Mothers Chrome polish, which seemed to do a good job.

I use NXT also. It is easy as heck to apply/wipe off. The only complaint I have is that it doesn't last long. I usually go over with some 3M hand glaze. Car always looks great!1 (Yes, I'm bragging!!). I've also heard good things about P21 wax/polish. I haven't used it though.

As for the wheels, I use the NXT on them too. Depends what mood I'm in, I'll either do them by hand or use Meguir's Powerball. You will definetly notice a difference when you clean them up!!!

NXT WAX OR CAR WASH ????? I THOUGHT YOUR SUPPOSED TO LET CHROME BREATH, I THOUGHT FOR SURE WAXING CHROME WAS A NO NO

I use the NXT on both the body AND the wheels. I don't know what style wheels you have on yours, Grooveygouldie, but I have the factory 5 spoke polished with clear coat on them. When I use the NXT on the wheels, they come up great!!! Just remember, don't use anything with a petroleum product in it on your wheels (and the body too, IMHO).
Also, keep in mind, the wheels get hot while driving and the wax/polish will not last long on them.

As for chrome breathing, I must have suffocated the chrome on my Harley!! :L

NICE, SOUNDS GOOD I WILL TRY IT , HAVE THE SAME RIMS ON MY CAR AS YOU DO :) THANKS AGAIN

HEY I JUST NOTICED YOUR FROM JERSEY , I LIVED IN NORTHERN NJ MY WHOLE LIFE , 33 YRS. I'VE BEEN IN FL FOR 1 1/2 YRS. DENVILLE THEN STANHOPE

Hi Groovey....

Where did you find the 303 protectant? Their web site only lists boat stores on the coast.

it was in a boat store as well, but i live in florida and it was in sanfor , you could easily order it online

www.303-products.com

also just put on billy boat bullet exhaust system, it's a must
great sound, just awsome

anyone out there , question, what do you clean your chrome rims with ??????

I have the factory 2000 5 spoke rims and I use regular wax. (well if you want to call Zaino regular wax) Here's the reason, on my car the wheels are not chrome they are polished with a clear coat to keep them shiny. That clear gets cared for just like the painted body does. The one plus side I have found with waxing the wheels, the brake dust has gone down because it’s harder for it to stick to the wheels. Not to mention the wheels are soooo much easier to clean.
If my wheels where a true chrome the first product I would try would be Meguiar’s NXT all metal polysh.

For some others that have read this thread: On the 303 stuff you might check with a pool and spa store. It is very highly recommended to use on spa covers a lot of those stores carry it in stock.

I have been a long time NXT user (since it was first available). At a recent Corvette show at Texas Motor Speedway I visited a Zaino booth. I bought a starter kit and tried it on my 2006 Monterey Red convertible. All I can say is "Wow". It took a while to do the initial steps, wash with Dawn and then wash with Zaino. I then put a coat of Zaino Z2 on, then sealed with the Z8 finish polish, then another coat of Z2 and Z8. Car loooks great. I just bought my wife a new Black Buick LaCrosse. I spent last Saturday doing the same work. I gave my leftover NXT stuff away this morning. I still use the NXT glass cleaner - much better results than Stoners Invisible Glass. Good luck with the new Vette - hope you enjoy it as much as I have enjoyer my last 4 (68, 95, 02, 06).

sounds like your talking about the car in general , i wanted to know what people are useing to clean the chrome five spoke rims that some vettes come with like my picture , best look without scratching
