Hello
I was curious if anyone could let me know, how much clearance is between the tranny and the tunnel? Is there any room to move the tranny up at all? I also was curious how much room would be taken up with a tilt wheel? I am curious if the wheel gets too close to the driver, even with a aftermarket column and the tilt mech
My project is more of a Hot Rod/ race car. My tranny is an aftermarket Doug Nash crash box and the rear end has a large tire which raises the pinion centerline, so I have nothing stock to go by for measurements. If I have to I will raise the tunnel some.
I don't want to cut up anything I don't have to
thanks in advance
Tom

Tom,

There's not much room in there. When I switched to the Richmond 5-speed, I found very little extra space.

Raising the pinion centerline will make things dicey.

Thanks 67 for the info. Was it tight at a certain spot or all the way along?

Tom,

The Richmond was tight all the way along, but it is a fatter case than the Muncie.

The main problem was room for the Hurst shifter, but we didn't cut any fiberglass.

Hello 67
Thanks for the pic. The Nash is the same as the Richmond(Richmond bought out Doug Nash) , but I did not realize how much wider they where than Muncie.
My tranny has a torsion tube at the bottom so it looks like it has two out put shafts, making it very deep as well.
GM did not leave any extra space in these cars anywhere. It is a tight fitting car to work on.
thanks again
Tom
