Hi can anyone advise me of the correct way to clear the ABS codes on my 90 Corvette. I know of a couple of ways but they don't seem to work:

1) Ground the H terminal on the ALDL for 1 second, disconnect for 1 second, repaet 4 times in 10 seconds.
2) Ground the H terminal for 2 seconds, disconnect for 2 seconds, reconnect until just code 12 shows

I couldn't get the above to work. The method used on 92 or 93 on using the speedo display doesn't work on my year.

Anyone know the correct way? Thanks

Malc. see www.mm-2000.co.uk/corvette/

Have you not tried removing a battery cable for 30 seconds? This is how I accomplish this with my '88.

Good luck,

I've tried that Larry but it doesn't seem to work, Malc.

Ok I'm digging

Trying to find an "option"

I spoke with Paul ( C4C5specialist ) re your problem... ( EXTRA WISE GURU... with a side of Salsa)

1) Spraying you connections with WD-40 was a BIG mistake...if it did leak down into the PCboard... the heat generated by the internal bits will cause the WD to boil and make a messy goo internal of the circut.. he recomends.. taking it out and giving it a good cleaning.. with the proper contact cleaner.

I think in the UK there is a chain of stores ( Radio Spares ?) which will have a contact cleaner suitable for your application.

2) Please verify power & SOLID ground
( again ).

3) Leave ABS module disconnected for 15minutes.. and try again.

If that don't get it...your toast!

That's the best I can come up with.....

Cheers

Trying to get some info for you.:drink

malc350,

Diag. Connector pins

FEDCBA
GHJKLM

A is ground

3 ways to clear the ABS codes
Diag. connector
1) Turn ignition on
2) Wait for codes to begin flashing
3) Ground pin H for at least one second, then unground. This
must be done 3 times within a ten second period.
4) Wait at least 15 seconds.
5) Turn ignition off
6) Ground pin H
7) Turn ignition on
8) Verify that Code 12 is the only code flashed. If not either the
code clearing procedure was not completed correctly, or there are
still ABS system faults.

You can use a Tech I

Ignition Cycle Default

If the vehicle power is cycled 100 times without a particular fault
reappearing, that particular fault code will be erased from EBCM
memory, and the ignition cycle counter will be reset to zero.

This is from a 90 manual, hope it helps

ABS Codes

I hope my EBCM IS shot because I've just ordered another one. I only hope that sorts the problem because I'm mystified as to how my ABS was working and all of a sudden I've got 3 codes showing. I'm hoping that the EBCM is giving out false codes as well as having its own code 71 problem (a terminal code by all accounts).

I'll let y'all know when I fit the new part. I think it may take a while to arrive 'cos it's special order.

I've also ordered a backup switch (6-speed) because mine only works occasionally.

I'm also thinking about posting the following "is 1990 a bad year?" because I've had more problems (mainly electrical) with my 90 in 3 months of ownership than I had in years of owning an 84 and a 93.

Thanks for everyone's help, Malc.

Maybe Kryten could help

He could interface his"attachments" to the ECBM.........

So I hope your ECBM is toast as well ( in the kindest possible way )...

This post is turning into a Britcom!
