I do not even know if this is answerable but here it goes...If I were to switch engines to the sallee chev 395 horse engine how much more clerance would I need to get the hood to clear I am wanting to get the hood that has only 1 1/2 inches over stock but I may have to go with the one that is 2 1/4 inches over stock. Thanks.

The difference between your stock engine height and a crate engine should be minimal. The thing you have to worry about is the intake manifold height. Find out high high the intake on the crate engine is compared to a stock intake, a hood with an extra 2-1/2 inch should allow for a bit of room for adjustment.
Maybe you might have to go with a drop base aircleaner if the manifold is too much higher, but I don't see that much trouble.
Do you know which brand of manifold it has or what part number, it would make finding out its height easier.
