I need to remove the clock on my 74 and upgrade it with a quartz movement. Anyone done this? I would appreciate advice about both how to remove, and also where you got the upgrade kit and were you szatisfied.

Thanks.

Center cluster has to come out to access the clock. It mounts from the rear of the cluster. AIM is helpful taking things apart and putting them back together.

My advice is to clean your existing analog clock and see if it doesn't return to normal before you jump to quartz. I cleaned the original in my '68, ran a separate ground wire to it, and it's run ever since.

:)

I upgraded my 74 to quartz not too hard to complete. Instructions that came with the kit were easy to follow. I got mine at "The Last Detail" in Atlanta, GA. I live in Atlanta and it saved me the shipping cost. If you are going to show the car you will get deductions for the upgrade (no tick tock). I like mine. It keeps perfect time. I Would do it again if I had to (in another 30 years;-)

Thanks Mike, the cleaning sounds like a good first move. Hate to sound uninformed but as a newbie to Vette ownership, can you tell me what AIM stands for? Thanks

AIM is the Assembly Instruction Manual. I have to disagree about the quartz kit. I filed the points on mine, it worked for six months, and then I had to tear out the dash again. The conversion was about $35 and took maybe an hour, taking my time and following ALL the directions. It also gave me an opportunity to clean the lenses and repaint the needles. Got mine on E-Bay. Clocks by Roger.

Worked for me and tickled me pink. I originally removed the clock because it wasn't working with the intent of replacing it with the quartz. After I got the '68 clock running, the quartz conversion went it to the '74 I owned at the time.

I would stick with an analog (personal preference). My clock wasn't working, I pulled it out, gave it a good clean and it's worked like a charm ever since. The only hassle I had was undoing the two darn nuts at the bottom of the besel (3/8 inch nut BTW and they have reverse thread). Other than that, it was a piece of cake.
