when my 95 auto trans shifts from 2-3 it makes a clunking sound everytime. It only does this when it shifts from 2-3. I read somewhere that this is common. But it cant be good for the tranny. I have searched this forum & internet w/ little help. Thanks in advance for comments or info.

Your trans type is a 4L60-E. This application has a band that holds second gear and the notorious 3-4 clutches for 3rd & 4th gear. A clunking noise is typically indicative of wear on the band or the 3-4 clutches.

How many miles are on the trans?

HI there,
This could also be due to the presence of contamination in the valves, which will change the apply of the 3.4 clutch, and the disengagement of the 2.4 band.
I would suggest that you have it checked out, and the fluid flushed out first, before proceeding.
