I'm pushing 100,000 on my ol' 92 now with the original clutch. No sign of giving up yet but I was wondering just how long a clutch normally lasts in a C4/LT1?

Can last an indefinite time...depends on the driver.

Okay, then is there anyway to tell if it's going bad before it actually goes bad?

Chattering, slipping, unusual odors emanating from the bellhousing, all indicate problems with the clutch assembly. Some problems may simply be due to adjustment in the older cars, but in the newer Corvettes, the clutch adjusts itself automatically as you use it. Have you any symptoms of the clutch reaching the end of its practical life span yet? If not, I wouldn't worry about it. ;)

Hi Ken and all,

No smell, no chatter, no problems. Just 99,500 miles. It still hooks and goes with no signs of slippage. Guess I've been good to the clutch for 12 years and it's treating me nice. Maybe it will last another year or 2 while I save my money for a Lingenfelter motor update!

Thanks all,
