Hi All!
I'm hoping we can put our heads together and solve the clutch pedal problem I'm having with my 85 coupe.
Here's the history of the clutch... I bought the car with it needing a clutch. I used aftermarket stuff from the local parts store. The car has a new disc, pressure plate, T/O bearing. I've also replaced the master and the slave too. The hose was reused in the end.

The problem I'm having is that when I first did the clutch it had a fair pedal. A week later when I tried to move the car there was no pedal. If I pumped it up It would regain the fair pedal and work. I have replaced the slave twice and again and am getting the same results. SO I figured It must be the master cyl. same results still. I've blead at least 2 quarts a fluid through it using the foot method, a vaccume pump, gravity. I don't see air ever.

Any ideas or similar problems solved would be much appreciated. What gives with this thing????????:hb

HELP!!!!!:ugh

The slave must be off and tilted at about a 45 degree angle for proper bleeding.

Whalepirot
Thanks for the come back. I'm headed to the garage with my wife to try it right now! I'll be back...

I went through the same problem with mine. With the help of someone in the CAC forum, I found a thread that took me to a site that explained bleeding the slave unit. May have been Whalepirot?

Anyway, I held the slave unit vertical, with the piston end facing downward. As you bleed the unit you will have to keep pushing the piston back up inside the slave. Don't fill the reservoir too much or you'll make a mess when you push the piston back up.

I don't know if I did it right. But it worked for me.

Clutch pedal

Thanks I tried the 45 degree thing last night with no better results. I did not however keep pushing the piston back in each time. I'll tell you I've about had it. I have to make sure all my hammers are no where near the car each time I get out from under it to try the pedal only to find it STILL does'nt work!

I'll keep trying! I wish you guys were'nt so far away. I could use some hands on help!

clutch pedal

Being a former ASE registered tech that worked on Porsche, Mercedes, Audi & VW I can't believe I cant make this thing work!!!!!!!!!!:confused

OK...be S,S (simple, stupid) with me here. I unbolt the slave> then hold it at a 45 degree angle> then pump the pedal> then open the bleeder> then push the piston back into the slave. Then repeat checking the fluid level?

Whalepirot,
Thanks for the links. The first one, http://zfdoc.com/clutch_hydraulic.htm has some interesting stuff.

I'm wondering if trying to be thrifty at the local parts store has caused all this difficulty.

I gave up for today. I'll be back under it again next weekend.:crazy

I have found that "saving money" doesn't always.
