I understand that the corvette has an hydraulic self-adjusting clutch. My fluid level is full - checked and added a little to bring it back to the full mark this week.

I would like to hear from others on where your clutch engages and how close to the top of pedal travel is your clutch fully engaged. I am used to a clutch engaging much closer to the floor board and being fully engaged several inches before the pedal is fully extended. My car finishes engaging almost at the top of travel.

I don't detect any slippage. I want to get a feel for where it "normally" is versus where it is on mine. I understand you cannot adjust it manually.

Also, I am newly returned to a corvette (glad to be back). Is the clutch still a pressure plate and disk arrangement or have they gone to something different? :confused

My 92 engages about 1/2 way up.

Our ex-LT4 car (96 CE LT4 Z51) engaged a little higher than that.

Our 03 AE engages about 1/2 way up also.

No problem with either - except making the transition between them. ;)

This seems about normal for the C4 clutch as far as I can tell.

BTW, since it automatically adjusts all the time, about the only way to know the clutch is going bad is for it to go bad.

Mine engages about the same place.

Yes, the clutch is as always, othewise. Some of us have aftermarket clutch parts, but use the stock slave/master.

Check elsewhere on this forum or in the repair manual if you need to bleed it. While not rocket science, it calls for the slave to be tilted 45 degrees to eliminate ALL trapped air. Fluid level and color checks, with preventive changes make a lot of sense to me, to prevent corrosion/rebuilds/failures.

Even though it's hydraulic and self adjusting, the pedal travel DOES change throughout the life of the clutch. When I put a new clutch in, it starts to engage almost immediately as I lift the pedal. As time goes by, it's maybe 3/4 of the way up.
