Coil Spring Installation Question

I'm assuming they are factory springs, but they may not be. If they are aftermarket, I have no idea of the maker. Either way, I don't know the spring rate. I didn't notice anything on the spring that would indicate top or bottom. Neither the assembly manual or service manual stated anything about top/bottom on the spring.

As for the ride height, that is still up in the air (no pun intended :) ) because I have the engine out and there is very little weight to compress them!

One reason for having the wider coils down might be if you want to use a spring compressor. A spring compressor will only fit to the lower part of the spring when installed, and it will be more effective if the coils are wider apart. Just a thought.

All Corvette (standard) front coil springs since 1964 are "variable rate" springs as described above, and the end with the closer coil spacing goes "up", as noted in the Assembly Manual; optional heavy-duty springs are "constant-rate", and have even coil spacing from one end to the other.

maybe i was missing it, but I saw no indication of ends in the manuals. Anyone want to point out where i missed it?

In my assembly manual it is in section 3C "Front Suspention". The page name is Front springs. It shows a nice diagram of the spring and its seat in the pocket and the note indicating close spaced coils toward spring tower. Again mine is a 74 so yours may be different.
