What is the proper color for '59 wheels? I've heard they went to all black that year but see a lot of body colored wheels at shows. Is there a NCRS book that specifies? Black kind of makes sense because the hubcaps have "vents" in them and a color would show through.

Thanks,
Gerry

59 wheels are black, 60 wheels (just the face) are body color. I painted my 60 wheels black because to me, white wheels look stupid with wide whitewalls.

Yes. It was a two-step paint process. The raw wheel was dip-primed semi-gloss black, baked, then the outer face of the wheel was painted with full-gloss wheel enamel and baked again. The back side of the wheel (and the portion under the tire) will always be semi-gloss black.
