I'm seriously thinking of converting to sidepipes, so I want to find out if there is anyone who might be interested in purchasing my current exhaust system.

I have dual stainless 2.5" pipes from Mid-America. These will bolt onto any C3 Corvette. They flow into stainless Dynomax Ultra-Flow mufflers.

The whole system has less than six months of driving time on it. And, well, it's stainless, so rust really isn't much of a problem :)

If anyone is interested, I'll try and figure out what would be a fair price. If that person is vaguely close, I may be able to deliver directly and save you the shipping cost.

So, chime in if you're interested.

Joe

I looked through my old reciepts, and found that I originally paid about $700 for all this, so I'm going to tentatively set the price at $500. Of course, I like to haggle, so maybe you can get me to lower that a bit, or offer me something interesting in trade to lower the price...

Joe

There are pictures of the pipes in Mid-America's catalog (also on their website). It's part number 603-840. I can take a picture from behind the car if you want to see the mufflers, installed. I don't think I can really get pictures of the installed pipes, since they're sort of under my car :)

Tony: I emailed you, but the message came back with an error. It said that you might have still got it, so let me know.

Any interest?

I'm interested. Give me a list of what you propose to sell. M/A p.n.603-840 shows only pipes w/flanges and clamps. I have a 79 L-82 4-speed. Is your car an automatic? If so,will these parts fit mine? Do you think you can get the system apart without a lot of damage to it? - Bob

The MAD kit is just the pipes, flanges, clamps, and assorted hardware. I also have Dynomax Stainless Ultra-Flow mufflers. I believe MAD also sells those, so they should have pictures in their catalog.

I've noticed that the guy who did the installation tack-welded the middle joint. I don't think it will be a problem to disconnect the tack weld. Other than that, I don't imagine that there would be any damage when taking it apart.

My car is an automatic, so I don't know if it will fit yours. Your best bet would be to call MAD and ask them about compatibility.

Joe

Decided to pass. Don't have a good feeling about being able to get the system apart without problems and concerned about the fit since my car is a 4-speed. Good luck seling it. - Bob

OK, so whats your price for the complete system? I would also be concerned about the tack weld myself. Mine is a 79 automatic so I guess your system will bolt right on to my car?? HOWEVER, you mentioned that its a dual exhaust. Is there anything else I would need if mine is the factory single pipe system?

$500, but you can try to talk me down. I like to haggle :)

Jeff

You'll need to add an exhaust hanger to hold the second pipe where it goes through the crossmember.

Jeff,

Does your State have Emissions Testing? 1979 as you know only came with single exhaust and a Cat. 1975 and later for emissions required a Cat. Maybe you could do dual Cats?

Don't mean to throw a wrench into the equation, but it maybe something to consider.

Thats right. I am going to check with my good buddy who is a master tech for a Lincoln/Mercury dealership here in town. He is also a state approved inspector so I need to check and see if by virtue of the age if I can remove the "cat" all together. However as time goes by and I learn more about this car I am inclined to keep it as original as can be. So after thinking about it I might just get a new "Y" pipe and mufflers from the cat back with original replacement parts and keep it a single exhaust. Thats the smart thing to do.

Jeff,

I too would like to upgrade my exhaust on my '79. It has the stock exhaust system with stock Midas mufflers. The system is fine, but just too quite for me. I would like a bit of a throater sound out the back. I don't listen to the radio much as when I drive my Vette I want to listen mostly to the car!

I think I could probably get the desired sound with just a muffler change and keep the original type exhaust system with the cat still in place. Let's face it these '79 base engine Corvettes are not street burners. Anyway my drag racing days are pretty much behind me now.

Have been looking at the Flowmaster 50 series, but not sure they will still maintain the stock size and look.

We do have a strict Emissions Testing here in Colorado however my '79 is now eligible for a Collector Plate that has one emission testing at licensing and that's it for the remainder of the car's life (unless they change the State law). That's how I understand it to be.

Let me know what you decide, I would be very interested.

Later,

Want to swap side pipes for dual?

Joe I am not sure what kind of pipes you are interested in I have a set of stainless steel units from SweetThunder that I am going to change out. I have 650.00 invested so perhaps something can be worked out. They fit and sound great but loud. I want to put the noise out the back so I can hear my radio. These are the factory style pipes so require the 69 style covers which I don't have. Let me know I would be happy to foward pictures there still on my car.
John

I was looking more at the pipes that use headers, but I'll think it over and let you know if I'm interested...
