Ok all, I need lots of guidance. I have a 94 Coupe, automatic trans. I followed the advice of many of you and went to ebay and purchased a set of factory service manuals. Yeehaw! I am ready to tackle some issues with my new toy.

I decided to start with an easy problem, tighten my loose cigarette lighter, did I say easy?

I read and re-read the instructions in Book 1, page 8C-11 through 12.

I was able to find and loosen all the screws, remove the button, retainer and snap ring. These are items 1, 2 & 3 in figure 12, page 8C-12. What I couldn't do was remove the knob.

What am I doing wrong? All I have managed to do is get the console trim plate half out and make it so the gear indicator doesnt work and my cigarette lighter is still loose.

You're almost there bro

The knob is just frozen up on the stick. If you took the snap ring out you need to spray some WD or Liquid Wrench down in there and start trying to pull it up and out. Try an adjustable wrench under it and pop it with your favorite persuader. She's just stuck.

who said this was suppose to be fun

Thank you Thong, I did as you suggested (reluctant to use force) and it came loose. Now to get it all back together, hahaha. Thanks again! Sam

If it's not too late go ahead and lube the selector stops under there. It really makes the gate crisp and precise feeling. Glad you're back on track. Don't forget to replace the bulb in the indicator like some dumbass did (me) and had to take it all back apart.

Cheers

looks like I will be going back in, I forgot the light bulb!
Oh well, I wanted to ask somebody about whether they should mate flush or if the console trim plate should be a little higher than the thing (whatever it's called) covering the radio.

I should be able to get to the light bulb w/o removing the knob (I hope).

and I thought it was safe to move on to bigger problems.

any idea where ckt 889 is? It's referred to in Book 2, page 8A-147-2, at the end of the troubleshooting chart #1 for inop mirrors.

did I ask if this was supposed to be fun?

It should be a little higher. I can't believe you left that bulb out just like me!

Check fuses for your mirrors. That would be too easy. It might be the switch. You'll have to take it from there.

tnx

Yeah, I have checked the fuse and started the troubleshooting procedure outlined in "electrical diagnosis" It refers me to Repair open in ckt 889. Yet I can't find any reference to ckt 889 anywhere else.

I have power and a good ground to the plug, that seems to leave little else but the switch. I am almost positive it's the switch but in an effort to save a dollar I will go the extra mile to make certian.

As for the light bulb, yah gotta figure Murphy's Law is in full force....

Go to page 8A-147-0, Book II, Electrical diagnosis. If your 94 manual is the same as my 95 then Ck 889 is located inside the drivers door & runs to the outside mirror switch. Donot take this as gospel as my reading of electrical schematics is shakey at best........ :L :L

right you are

call this a case of not being able to see the forest for the trees. Now that I know where to look for schematic numbers aka ckt numbers things will be clearer. tnx for all the help... ...Sam
