The rear window on my beater 94 LeBaron convertible came loose at the bottom. The places were it was attached to the top still clean and smooth and it looks like I could glue them.

The question is what kind of adhesive? I would guess that weatherstrip isn't strong enough. After I do it once the surfaces will require a lot of cleaning in a place it's tought to do if it doesn't work. So I want to do it right the first time.

Any suggestions?

Grizzly,
If you have some overlap I found the perfect stuff. I used it on the top/window for a Mercury I have. It's 3M's Window Weld, I don't have the part number in front of me right now but I can get it if you need it. There are two kinds/thicknesses, I used the thicker of the two. It's really thick, you can dispense it with a normal caulk gun with no porblems - if you are related to Popeye. You can buy the special caulk gun for thicker stuff, I just left the plastic nozzle off and used the regular gun with a lot of grunting and heavy breathing (not that kind). I spread it out with an old putty knife.

This stuff is intended as a windshield adhesive and is pretty strong. It can make a mess but the excess can be peeled off with a little work. Wear latex gloves while it's wet, my hands were black for about a week because I didn't the first time. I've used this stuff for all kinds of projects recently. If I were to do my window again I'd get the thick stuff for the actual joint and the thin stuff to fill in around the exposed edges after the joint dried, which would 've porevented me from having to peel excess. It only needs to set up over night.

I got the one I used at a normal parts store, they didn't stock the thinner version (which is why I didn't use it, impatience) but they can get it.

I hope this helps, I tried many products and none worked like this.
Mike
