I have a problem with the trun on my 01 convertible. It will not pop up all the way when I hit the button. This forces me to pry it up with my finger tips. It is quite irritating. I have oiled it, but no positive gains have been achieved.

Any advice?

Bill

Same thing with our '02...I'll be interested in hearing what others have to say.

an easy one....

just adjust the rubber stops at the corners by backing out the threads. You may have to do it a couple times because too much pressure causes the trunk lid to not align flush when it is closed.

same here on the 2000 convertable...hasn't GM woken up yet???

WD-40 on all pivot points and on the latch release. I did mine and it did not work the first time but after a second time it works fine. I do it every 6 months just to keep it working.

I had the same problem, the first time the Chevy dealer fix it at no cost. My problem seems to be temperature dependent, works best in warm weather.

yes warm weather it sho8ld work better because the gas inside expands due to heat and would cause a higher preasure to open the trunk lid

Just recently a guy hada the same problem and after trying the WD 40 etc. he took the spring out of the latch and stretched it slightly with plyers. Now the truck pops open fine. I personally have been successful with the WD 40 thing. Good Luck.
:D :D :D

I will have to try the dealer. I have a short list to get looked at anyway. The WD40 did not work...

I have adjusted the latch mechanism on our 03 as it appeared to be slanted and therefore binding on the trunk latch part. That appeared to help some. It pops up higher now but not always as high as I would like. The next step is to replace the latching mechanism and hope the new one has a stronger spring. Or doing the spring stretch as previously mentioned.

In the mean time, when it doesn't pop up very much, I give the rear bumper a little thump on the top just outside the latch and it pops up more than enough to open easily after that.

Hi there,
On your o3, there is a TSB to replace the hinge, and add a second support strut to your vehicle.
If you look at your hinges, you may find that you only have one support strut.
Check it out, c4c5:hb

R1_addict,
I have an 01 convertible with the same situation. Mine however,
became worse after I put on a trunk lid liner from Design Specialties. While it looks great, it also added some weight.

I use a little trick that I'll share with you.

With the top and both windows up, pop your trunk from inside, open and close your drivers or passengers side door.
The vacuum created in the car will push the trunk lid up just enough so that you can easily open it.

Regards,

Pedro

Funny you mention the trunk liner, I also installed a trunk liner. I figured out the closing of the door trick soon after!

I had the same broblem with my 02. Dealer replaced struts but this did not help. I saw on this site where there was a service bulletin for the 1997 Roadsters with this problem. The fix was to change the spring that opens the trunk. I had this done and seems to work fine at this time. The new part # was listed in the previous post, I don't have it. You should check the archives for this information, seems like I found it last October.

This is a follow up on previous post about trunk not opening correctly. To find part number for 'spring' go to "Knowledgebase, 1997-2003, Body Parts & Trim, 1997 trunk will not open in cold weather". You will find part # necessary for the Dealer to order.

I've given up on this issue, and I've had my car serviced by some of the "best in the business," including a specialist in both the c4 and the c5. ;)

Currently, I can barely get a fingernail under the lid to open it.

Now, I just make sure to slam the door when I need to open the trunk. 'course this only works if the top is up.
