Does anyone know what the resistance range is supposed to be for the coolant and oil temperature sensors?

I would like to check the calibration of the gauges....although calibration is a bit too "strong" of a term.

My coolant gauge reads just under the thick 200°F mark, right where it should for the installed thermostat.

But the oil temperature gauge seems to be quite low. I added this feature to my '81 a long time ago, so the parts were never "calibrated" at the factory...so I probably have the incorrect shunt resistor on the gauge. This is what I want to check-out as well as the coolant gauge scale.

Anyone??

Lanny,I seem to remember that just under the 200 mark is about where mine runs as well.
as for the oil temp,it does take a while for it to get to temp.
I can,if you like check the resistance on mine when I get it out next month.
(still winter here):mad

I was hoping that there were specs on the two sensors and what the resistance was for certain temps. I know that in another car I had the fuel gauge was 0 - 90 ohms. I did measure the coolant temp while the engine was running, but still warming-up and I got a reading of 325 ohms. I do not think I can get to the oil temp sensor from the top side without putting a wire on it first and then running the engine.

I did find the oil tmep sensor OEM part number 25036292, PS201...but have not been able to find any specs on it.

I will be happy to check mine..
it may be a couple of weeks before I get to it.

Re: Coolant & Oil Temp Sensors

I go crazy on those gauges. What I did first check all the gauges with other mechanical gauges then change the resistors to best match the "real" temps. It still isnt perfect but good enough.

Greetings Peter

I did find that Wilcox Corvettes has a range for the coolant temp on their web site. I wrote it down and now unable to find it....:ugh

Lanny I'll pull mine out this weekend and I will check mine:D
