what kinda coolant should i buy am going to do a flush is prestone Gm Dexcool approved coolant what i show use in my 94 it has GM6277M. My manual says GM1825M will it still work or do i need to get gm1825M for my car. thanx

does anyone know the type of coolant i should use??

I also have a 94, I use plain ol' green coolant. You can use eitehr one but if you plan on switching to the Dexcool you'll have to drain the block as well.

It was 95 when GM switched to the Dex-Cool (orange) coolant in the Vette.

You can use the orange stuff, but you will have to completely flush all of the old coolant out. Mixing the green coolant and orange causes the orange coolant to lose its long-life properties.

The flush process is pretty tedious and complicated as it involves removing the knock sensors at the bottom of the block. And if you should get coolant down on the Opti-spark from the bleed valves on the throttle body and the thermostat cover, that will quickly become toast and then you're looking at $450 or so for a replacement!!!

My dealer has a flushing machine that allows the system to be flushed correctly given the reverse-flow in the LT-1 cooling system. Most of the quick oil-change places or Joe's Quik-Fix Garage types, are NOT the places to go if you aren't doing it yourself. You will need 2 gallons of coolant to get the proper mix ratio. Also, use distilled water (recommended per the service manual) for re-fill if you do it yourself.

Changing coolant types does not have to be an involved process. Drain your radiator and flush if you like. Re-fill with plain water and bring the engine to temperature. Shut down the engine allow it to cool, and drain again. Re-peat this again if you like. However the minor amount of green antifreeze left behind will be minimul and have very little affect on the longevity of your Dexcool. There is an alternative long life silicate based (green stuff) anti-freeze that is 5 years or 100k miles before requiring changing if you should choose not to convert to the Dexcool.

I actually think it was 1996...

I have it, don't like it (it keeps clean, but doesn't do a good job of cooling)... so, stick with the green stuff IMHO.

It was mid year through 95 they changed it... my 95 vette came with a supplement in the owners manual stating that this car uses a new type of Antifreeze that is good for 5 years/100K miles.

I use the Dexcool in my LT4... combined with a 160 t-stat, the PCM reprogrammed for early fan turn on and a clean raditator intake... temps never see above 190.
