Hi guys, ive just got myself another corvette, its an 86 tpi in rare copper metallic, according to the tech centre only 4 cars were made in this colour, its a genuine code 66,as im over here in the UK,i was wondering if this is true, and was there any reason why only 4 was made?

congrats on this very rare Vette.

yes if its a genuine RPO color 66 and VIN 1986 its a collector.

maybe not now but in several years it will be very hot in the market.

I cannot explain why copper was not sold many in 86,
I think people we more other colors minded that year.
as you can see in 87 RPO color 66 sold 87 pieces

maybe because color was rare in 86 or maybe because taste had changed and people liked that colour more.

regards from the otherside of the Canal , Netherlands.
whereabout in UK are U ?

Yes, congratulations. From just browsing here, the issue with the copper color seems to have been fading problems, and difficulty matching the color of the various panels at the factory.

I would be very careful to protect the finish so it doesn't exhibit those problems.

Bob

Heres a couple of pics, was there anything else different with these cars,or is it just the colour?

Check the link below for some good shots of copper metallic. There is no mistaking it when you see it, and it was used only in 1994.

..that is the 1994 shade - there was a different hue offered in 1986 :cool

I hope this clarifys what a unique 1986 that person has overseas :cool

Wow - Vettes seem to have an inexhaustible supply of trivia. I check in on every copper thread I see here and elsewhere, as it's a favorite, but still never heard of that. Cool.

So does anybody know if my shade is the correct shade for 86?Has anyone ever seen a 86 copper?

the papers are the ones who don't lie, maybe the car was re-painted ???

the color looks a bit like the RPO 69 medium brown EDIT : the picture is for a 1987 vette stupid me :eyerole
I will check the correct RPO for this 1987 color

After seeing the paint chips I can tell the difference between copper metallic and dark red metallic.

Z51 has pros and cons.

Pros:

The wider wheels look good
The oil cooler, HD radiator and boost fan seem like a good thing, especially in Georgia where it gets pretty hot in the summer.
It sticks to the road like a slot car.

Cons:

The ride is pretty harsh.

Neutral

You really have to pay attention to your driving with the quick steering ratio.

So,do you think that mine is copper then?It does have the code 66,but could have been repainted at some point i suppose,i cannot find a pic of another 86 copper, and the 94 is very different, just not sure what to do really,as corvettes are rare anyway in the UK,this colour is the rarest of the rare!!

Heres another picture, just need to know if this is the correct shade for a 86 copper metallic, before i spray it another shade, and help would be great.

Just curious, why is it you think it isn't really a copper metallic car? Do you think the build sheet has been tampered with? Does the car look like it's been repainted?

No,its nothing like that, ive just not seen what another 86 copper looks like to compare the colour against, and the 94 is very different.
