correct carb.?? for 72 454

My restoration book shows a rochester q-jet # 7041204 for a 72 454 coupe automatic as the correct carb. The last vin # of 503764 (early 72 ?) could mean it might have a late 71 carb. #.It currently has a 7043200 (not correct for 72) but some say it might be correct.Anyone else know??:confused

The 7041204 is for a 71 LS5 Automatic. The 7043200 is for '73 LS4 Automatic. Your '72 LS5 Automatic should have # 7042216. (by the way, the 4th digit is the year).

In addition, Qjets have date codes on them, so this also might be considered when choosing a 'correct' carb
