I wanted to correctly adjust the ignition timing in my 1987 Coupe with auto transmission. Both Chilton & Haynes manuals make reference to the VECI label (Vehicle Emissions Control Information label) to:
1- Know the correct timing in degrees for my engine.
2- Know the location and color of the wire for the EST(Electric Spark
Timing) which has to be disconnected in order to correctly adjust
the timing.
The thing is that my car is missing this label. The manuals state that the EST wire is near the brake booster. I located a tan & black wire that has a connector near the booster but I'm not sure this is the correct wire.
How can I test to see if this is the correct wire? And what is the correct ignition timing for this car? I want to do this before installing a Hypertech Thermomaster chip because the chip's instructions state thet the correct timing has to be set before installing the chip. Thanks to all.
