1972 Coupe
Hello everyone,

I am considering purchasing a Corvette and I would really appreciate opinons on a car that I am looking at.

1972 Coupe with automatic.
Approx. 120,000 mi.
Has a RHS engine (425 hp) in currently but it comes with original 350 / 200.
Z28 331 Manifold, Holley Dual Feed carb.
Posi 3:70
Hooker headers / 2 1/2" Dual flowmaster
Engine has approx 16000 mi on it since it was rebuilt and put in car.

A lot of work was done to car in since 1998 (between 16 and 20,000 miles ago)
Rebuilt trans, brakes, trailing arms, shocks, rear spring, some front end stuff.

New interior in 98 and still looks pretty good. Could use new weather stripping.
Option are PS, PB, PW, Tilt/Tele, AC (don't know if it works).

Color is Targa Blue and it needs new paint. It is a bit faded and is peeling in spots and has bubbles and a big spider on hood.
It appears that it had some work on the front fenders.
There are slightly visible horizontal impressions(lines) running across each fender approx. 3 feet up from the nose.
I would guess someone cut off a piece of nose and then added another. It looks good besides the faint lines.
All lines of fenders and doors seem to line up nice. Chrome and glass are good.

Frame seems solid with no visible corosion. Some surface rust.

Car runs good and goes nice and straight. It idles...well like a racing engine I guess. It has to get warm before you can go without stalling. It bangs going into reverse. Someone told me that was because of torque of engine??? Does that sound right?
If I was to purchase this car I would probably rebuild and reinstall original motor and get car painted. I am not looking for a show car but a driver.

I would like opinions on approx. how much this car is worth and approx. how much it would cost me to do above mentioned changes.
If currnet RHS engine is running good would I be able to sell it?

Thanks in advance for any opinions and help:)

If you have all the origanal parts to put it back and the frame is good I would say from my latest black book you are looking at about7-10k. Yes you can sell the engine there is always a demand for those. And at that price you can afford to put some money into it and have a 18-19 k car when finished nicely.

I Would guess

I just got throught searching for a C-3 Found a 75 I would guess the guys asking about 11,500 probaly could get for 9

Thanks for the help tls630 and joe1975.

Anyone else out there with any thoughts on the value of this car?

Joe, was that a 75 you found for 11,500 or a 72?

p.s. I wanted to post this in the C3 for sale/wanted section but couldn't....

Sounds like a nice vette. Just a note, the horizontal lines you make reference to could be the factory bonding strips if I understand what you are describing. This is how the factory attached the fenders (front and rear) and it is common for them to start showing thru after some years. They are starting to show on my '72. You should not have trouble selling the RHS motor as they had an excellent reputation before they went out of business. You might consider leaving it in the car when you are advertising it for sale, that way someone could test drive it. Better yet, store it in the corner of the garage for when that need for speed hits you later. :D Overall sounds like a nice car and '72's had a lot of final year features. Charles

My guess is it's worth 12k...give or take a few bucks. Got any pics you could show us?

clear it up

No I just finished a search for a decent car I bought a 75 , but based on what I looked at thats what I based my reply on. The 75 I bought is almost exaclty what you described down to the lines on the fenders. Looks like it was replaced at some time ,but a good solid repair with a half *#@ paint job

By the way

I paid less then 9 but a chrome bumpered car is a lot more desirable

Charles,

Actually the lines run across the fender, from hood to edge of finder, not on a seam. I know what you mean though, I have a 76 where they show. The 72 appears like it had a portion of the nose replaced. I can only assume if they didin't replace the entire nose that the hit couldn't have been too bad. The hood was probably replaced also.

Would 10,000 be a good offer for this car? It does NEED paint.

Thanks

samey samey

Mine has the lines your talking about right above wheels a repair. If the A/c actually works I would offer 9,000 but 10,000 would still be a decent price. current market considered I'm not a expert but I've just been out there looking I'd of loved to have found a chrome bumpered with a nice interior posibily to be had under 10 Oh Good luck work on him

I would say no morethan 10k. But the car is worth puting some money into. You can put 9-10k into it and still not get hurt if everything else is O.K.Be sure to check the frame really good and the battery box the radiator core support, the steel area around the windshield, just look it over real good.
