Hey gang--
In another thread about forced induction, someone brought up the idea of using a large centrifugal supercharger driven directly off of the crank. My question is, would this be a wise alternative when going the forced induction route? You wouldn't have to worry about belt slippage. Would you need an intercooler? The person posting said that he would probably go with a large ProCarcher model like an F4. What kind of power would this produce on a 396 fuel injected LT1 built for forced induction? Would such a setup cause abnormal wear on the motor? I welcome any and all thoughts. :beer

Do you have a link to the Procharger F4? I do not see one on their homepage.

http://procharger.com/models.shtml

All of the "F" line models will make over 1000hp so a properly built low compression 396 should make over 800 hp easy.

BTW, arent all prochargers centrifugal?

The F4 is at the very end of the table; the last column. You have to scroll across to see it. As for your other question, yes, I believe all ProCharger models are centrifugal. I was just making sure people wouldn't confuse my intentions and think I was talking about a roots-style supercharger or something like that.

with a base hp of 700 to 1100 hp and a max s/c power of 2300 hp thats sounds like a race only applications.

Definetly solid roller territory & high rpm use.

If you are looking for street & ocassional strip use I would not use the F4 unit.

But I dont have a s/c so who knows....

Who is going to do the motor for you? It would be a good idea to ask the engine builder about this.

I just didn't know if the base HP rating and the boost levels mentioned on the site would apply for the application I am talking about. Granted, I do not know much about supercharging or engines in general, but it seems that there would be some difference there. Anyway, thanks for the advice!
