Crank pulley

how do you loosen the three bolts with out the pulley turning? the old water pump is off and doesnt show any obvious signs of leaking, what else could be the cause of the intermittent coolant smell and the dead optspark? Hopefully when we get the old unit off it will make more sense but right now, the pulley is being the pain. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Remove the splash pan for the flywheel and jam a screw driver in the flywheel teeth.

Youve got to be kidding with me, I thought tomorrow morning trying to pry a 2x4 up against the pulley and try loosening the bolts that way or putting tension on the belt, I would have never thought to pull the guard and use a screw driver, might try it though if the board doesnt do anything for it

If you don't like that Idea then go to the local auto store and buy the flywheel tool.
Its about $30.00 and is designed to turn the flywheel or hold it in place.
I have a chrome one and I have used it alot over the years.

I just got on crossflags, and saw the kent moore puller, I wonder if we called the gm dealer if theyd let us use it if they have one? We may try the screwdriver to first. Thanks for the tips, Id like to have this thing driving by tomorrow night but we'll see.

The puller is $360.00 from kent moore,GM LT1 LT4 only puller.
I bought one what a joke it is worth about $50.00 tops.

It looks like one someone on here on another thread made but the way they described it. Like it fits inside the pulley to avoid the frame rail. We'll its back at it, Im trying the 2 x 4 then we'll try it at the flywheel, thanks again.

well, we got the pulley off and the new dynaspark on, after lunch we're changing the wires and installing the new water pump, we still have to route the new vacuum lines to but its on its way, and the suns out so with any luck it will be running by this evening.

I worked in a shop before and the screwdriver jam technique was used as required. We never had no flywheel "t:eyerole :eyerole l" The screwdriver will work fine!
