I have a 78 with a 350 cc, The water pump has been changed with a morroso aluminum one. now the pulleys for the pump and alternator do not line up with the crank shaft pulley. Do i need to change the crank pulley, install a spacer. Your help with this is appreacheated.

Are you set on using that pump? Getting the correct-length pump would probably be the best bet.

be VERY careful, i never realized how important the geometry is and using good parts is to the water pump. i had an aftermarket clutch fan, which was obviously not balanced. it broke the water pump shaft off the water pump on a spirited run. there was no warning, one minute i was racing an m-5 bmw, the next the fan was in the radiator with steam coming from under the hood. I thought it was a oddity but when i spoke with my mechanic he said i was lucky, he has seen where unblaanced (and misaliged) water pump, fan assembalies have taken out the radiator & the hood-even more $$ than i got caught for

Welcome aboard CACC! The moroso is a good pump and should last as long as any ... if belts are aligned. It is quite common to run spacers in race cars ... done right it ain't ever a problem.

If your wp pulley is too far back (toward pump) ... there's an cheap, easy fix. Moroso, Weiand, Mr. Gasket ... they all make a "universal water pump pulley shim kit" ... under ten bucks. Kits come with two 1/16" & one 1/8" thick shims ... fit one or two or three shims between pump hub and pump pulley. Moroso pn = 64035 ... Mr. G pn = 6129 ... one kit fits both ford & gm, both 5/8" & 3/4" pilots. I had to do this with a Weiand race pump ... no problem.

If your wp pulley is too far forward (away from pump) ... a good mechanic can disassemble pump and press the hub back. Sometimes the pulley will rub on wp housing/webs ... just grind a bit off housing/webs.
