You were using ether!!??

No wonder it would crank, fire then die. Had we known the actual situation (cranks but won't run) you may have found the VATs issue sooner.

BTW: ether is very low octane and, thus, detonates badly. Any lenghty sessions trying to start the car using ether, can damage the engine.

Never use ether or "starting fluid" on a Corvette engine.
 
the vats was by passed with diode when he owed it.Does this make any sense?
Resistor.
But as noted above that only bypasses the VATS input.If the module / wiring is faulty you could still have problems on the output side.

We all ASSUMED that you were getting fuel from the engine ; not from something you sprayed in
