What carb setup do you have, as this is the last piece that I am trying to decide on.

I have the stock Quadrajet but it has been rejetted it works fine. I've been told a bigger carb won't help since the Quadrajet can move more fuel through it than the 383 can use (the jury is out on that, a bigger carb could be in my future, I'm thinking about cutting a tuner loose on the car). I did have to upgrade to a high flow fuel pump and you're gonna need deep groove pullys. You will probably lose 15 or so HP and a little TQ if you run a dual plane manifold, it seems the dyno guys like to use a single plane when they search for the highest numbers to advertise.

Koop, I'm with ya on the carb. Our 750cfm Q-Jets can flow a lot of juice. More than most people think! And they are damn fine carbs when properly tuned!

As for the intake, according to the specs they quoted, those are the numbers WITH that intake manifold already on there!

You are correct the manifold is included. However, runing a single plane might help top end HP & TQ but it will likely reduce the average HP & TQ.

Drag Radials, my 454 SS is useless without them! I also run them on my 383 Cobra all the time! Both hook really well!

Al,

I am only 410 HP without the NOS and I am guessing that your 454 and 383 is putting out much more than that.

I am not familiar with this type of power (410 hp-450ft lbs/tq) so I have no idea what to expect. I guess if I am still smoking the tires badly with reduced air in street tires I may have to run slicks, but again, I have no idea what to expect.

How can I put it? Ok, a 1969 427/435, I think you have more real HP and almost as much torque, with out the NOS! I'm not going to go into it but let's just say in 1969 engines were rated with "what if" HP! ie, what if the oil pump, water pump, ect didn't consume hp, point is they do so who cares about that number?

You have a car that I think is faster than maybe 90-95% of the cars out there! When you go to the strip, first watch a bit. Then move slow. If you move up to the line a little slow, so what? It's much better than backing up to it! Go out and talk to the guys/gals at the starting line, they will love breaking your cherry, nicely, if they know!

Under do it, you look a little slow, over do it, oh well, just under do it and learn! Remember, FUN!

Sorry, a few more things, I would guess the 383 in the Cobra is about the same HP as your engine, maybe a touch more torque! My 454 SS is a TRUCK around 4,400 pounds, stock 230, torque 385 @ 1600 rpm! I would gess we have close to the same HP, but I would guess my torque at around 600#. It runs 13.007 @ 106 mph! A very, very little cam, a very small improvement in the heads (still GM iron oval port small valves), then of course 6 psi of Vortech boost! The old BLACK truck kicks butt, or hauls stuff for my resturants! Blowers are cool!

Expect this...

This morning I ran into a '93 ZR1, we went from off from a stop on a hard left to 120, to the shock of the guy in the ZR1 I took two car lenths and kept them. Then we went from another light (Dead stop), my 235's just couldn't put the power on the street like his 315's, he killed me out of the hole. Further up the road he tried to convince me he was making 500HP... Sure Dude!

The fun continued! Later I stumbled across a New Maserati Coupe that was lowered, trick wheels and what sounded like a Tubi exhaust. LOL, I crushed the guy!

Al,

That was a great video and thanks for the wors of advice. I will hit the track a few times to see how things work before I try anything.
