Jerry Mulick, right, and partner Terry Myers are co-owners of a rare 1963 Corvette Z06. Mulick is a member of the North Shore Corvette Club.

There's only one car that can make Jerry Mulick's heart race as fast as a NASCAR driver.

"It's an American, home-grown product. It's something a lot of us grew up with and is attainable," he said.

"A lot of people can't get into Ferraris, but the Corvette has endured."

Mulick, a real estate property manager from Northfield, has been a member of the North Shore Corvette Club since 1987 and serves as a judge for Corvette shows across the country, a role he relishes.

"I'm able to see a lot of nice cars and meet a lot of people whose only passion is this."

Mulick has been a judge at Chevy Vettefest in Chicago and the Bloomington Gold show at Pheasant Run. In July, he judged restored Corvettes at the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) convention in Boston.

The NCRS, a non-profit organization, established in 1974, is dedicated to the restoration, preservation, history and enjoyment of Corvettes made from 1953 to 1991.

For newbies who think they're ready to buy a classic 'vette and fix her up, Mulick recommends joining the club to connect with people whose advice can help pave the way. The club also offers classes and seminars on how to buy Corvettes and links buyers and sellers.

Visit www.ncrs.org for more information.

Through the North Shore Corvette Club, Mulick said he has met many new friends from all walks of life who share his passion for the Corvette.

"No other hobby has so many different ways to enjoy it. You can restore a car and drive it. You can take an old car apart and put it back together and have fun doing it," he said.

Information about the North Shore Corvette Club can be found at www.northshorecorvetteclub.org.

Mulick's love affair with the Corvette began when he purchased his first, a 1966 model.

"Once I had one, I wanted another," he said.

Corvette No. 2 was a 1967 Corvette, but the grand dame of Mulick's collection is a rare, white 1963 Corvette Z06. The car, which he co-owns with show partner Terry Myers, is one of just 63 made and has a 36-gallon gas tank.

The car has no radio, because it was built to be raced and has a 360-horsepower engine. Even the leather interior is exceptional because it was a new feature at the time the car was made, Mulick said.

The '63 Z06 has already won several awards and is up for the prestigious Triple Crown Award at the Chevy Vettefest at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, in November.
