Creaks and squeaks only when hot!

1995 Torch Red Coupe
I posted this a while ago on the Corvette Forum site but didn't get much help so I thought I would try here. My 95 coupe drives fairly quiet except for the normal in-cabin noises and rattles. When going over bumps (even speed bumps that you find on every other street out here) and uneven roads there are generally NO suspension squeaks. However, I noticed when the engine gets hot enough to get the auxiliary fans running (e.g., on a hot day with air conditioning on), I start getting quite noticeable suspension creaks when going over bumpy surfaces--speed bumps are a cacaphony of sound.

My guess is that something is normally expanding as the engine heats up which is causing something to rub or bind more than under normal conditions. A likely candidate would be the exhaust pipes as these must elongate somewhat as the exhaust gases get hotter. Has anyone else noticed this and does anyone have any solutions?

Thanks,

Doug

Never experienced that. Normally I have the radio to loud to notice anything :)

It could be related to the bracket that holds the aux. fan.

Don't think so since it sounds like it is coming from under the car but not at the front. It almost sounds like a creaky shock but there is absolutely NO creaking until the engine gets hot enough to turn on the aux fans. I still suspect expansion of the exhaust pipes that results in something binding or rubbing.

Did you check the heat shields on the cats. I had to rivet mine twice since I got the car. I learned to use steel instead of aluminum....last longer. I guess the vibration of the exhaust causes these to wear. Just a thought.

That's a good suggestion. I will hopefully be bringing the car in to address some other issues (minor oil leak) and to have roller rockers installed, so when it is up on the rack, I'll have the mechanic check that out.
