Crossfire: deserving of it's bad rep?

I respond to what I read xrcrx and you tried to be funny with your comments......anyway not that it matters but here is a little more on the RPO Z51. They did achieve 1.0g cornering if the kept the tires from cambering. Race cars are set up with the tires initially cambered 1 or 2 degrees negative so the outside hard cornering tire stays straight up. This works for race cars but not street cars because they are required to perform in rain, snow ,and ice.The resulting camber thrust experiened during straight driving and the tire wear would not be good. The tire wants to be straight up and down with as little toe as possible on the regular road. What they did was increase roll stiffness (the Z51) so the car would roll in the corner less. To achieve this front and rear spring rates got increased WAY beyond the original plan. As it was devolped, handling, accelaration and braking were great and all manuevers were conducted with the absense of pitch and roll, there was no oscillation, no overshoot the car did what was asked of it. Now this part goes back to my earlier post. They only drove this car on the proving grounds, with security such an important part of a new car program they drove it on very smooth or horribly rough roads and missed the subtle nuances of frost heaved roads until after the press got a hold of them. I think if I were going to spend 100 million developing a new car then, throw some cladding all over it and drive the sh-- out of it....xrcrx sorry about the bloodflow stuff....this is all good banterring and I love it

I don't know what kind of roads you drive on, you must live in the projects, my roads are smooth and my 84 vette is flat around corners and super quick through the twisties. Move to a better area the roads are better.

I never stop wondering if some people truely read these posts or just make up stuff as they go. I used Michigan to illustrate my point. Now about me and living in the projects, I have never read such a statement of such bigotry in my life. You live in Canada and you don't have frost heaves, or roads that snow plows chew up in winter. The projects I live in....back in 1986 I paid $650,000.00 for my apartment that has 5 bedrooms and 3+ acres of land. It has a deep water dock were I keep my 3 boats in the summer. The one thing I do not like about living in the projects on Cape Cod Ma is when my neighbors come over in the summer for BBQ's that we have such a nice time they want to come back the next weekend. You need to think before you write....that comment was way out of line........

The 84 corvette with Z51 is a great car, you are totally wrong goldfish. Can you make a better car?;shrug Why are you telling me about your apartment? Can I drive an 84 vette in there? Drive a corvette on decent roads, if you are looking for a smooth ride stay off the bumpy ones in those low cost neighborhoods. Where I live if there is a frost heave we repair them.

Well I will assume that I must have been in another Canada this past winter because the roads I drove on were like driving on a cornfield. I sense once again a 84 corvette owner doesn't like what he reads so before he takes his toys from the sandbox and goes home we start with name calling. You referred to me living in the projects....you should be so lucky. Maybe if you read more(that is if you can) you can bring more to the table that way instead of one big SARCASTIC statement and maybe it will help with your IQ as well. LOVE and KISSES your freind GOLDFISH

Goldfish, Were you in Quebec? bumpy french roads.

Man....it is poverty and projects, now it is the French I thought Archie Bunker was dead I guess bigotry leaves on and well in your neck of the woods. No IQ84 it was Montreal.

gonfishn-as for what i have posted, i do not disagree that the 84 z51 pkg is less than stellar on poor roads. Fortunately the roads here in the part of Texas i live in are relatively smooth. Driving thru La. was pretty bumpy. However-it was developed for the enthusiast, without compromise for ride quality ,based on the technology of the time. On a track it can still run with todays cars. I know, because i take all my vehicles to the track at some point on a regular basis. My info on the cfi comes from not only ownership, but articles i have written and research done for them and for performance upgrades. Personally i don't care if ya live in a trailer in Ok. or a mansion in Cape Cod, won't even call you a yankee lol:L as for banter-sometimes the web soesn't show intent very well, no worries. I will simply agree to disagree. I do not need to take my toys and go home. I'll stack em up against other toys any day. We are all enthusiasts here I think. In 83-84 the Vette was a world calss car that, then as now, outclassed cars costing much more. The cfi was unfairly maligned, tpi was a great next step, technology marches on as it should. btw-what do you drive?

XRCRX I agree with you 100% I am a HUGE Corvette fan and I DO enjoy the banter on these and other forums like it. I realize time changes many things and hopefully for the better. The Corvette is a case in point. The early 70's were better than the early 60's in many ways and I will be the FIRST to admitt that the 80's vettes were better than there previous models and so on, all I have been trying to point out in the spirit of BANTER is that in many ways if they had just taken that extra step or as they wanted to hold off on the early 80's cars 1 more year these issues we see now would have never risen. lets face it they were on the cutting edge at the time but that kinda bit them in the butt. I mean look at the digital dash display.....honestly wouldn't you rather a analog display that you can see in the sun... these are the things I have been talking about. Corvette has learned much and now in my opionion is the finest sports car for the money and that includes the $106,000.00 ZL1. I bring up stuff in response to other members lack of common sense. Telling people to move from the projects when they have no idea who or what I am about. I was not directing the other comments at you by any means and you are correct again...who gives a rats a-- where or how someone lives. All I am saying is if someone is going to say things like that I will point out how wrong they really are. That is the best thing about these forums you can agree to disagree all day LONG PEACE Who's vette in the pic's and is that the one yoy have been mentioning. I sold my 1979, I shouldn't say this on this site but what the hell I bought a 1997 BMW 840Ci with 21000 original miles on it, one owner. I figure drive it for the summer maybe a newer Vette next Summer

That is my 84. It's been in a couple magazines, got a couple of show trophys, raced both in the 1/4 and at various scca events and track days. I bought it specifically for the suspension pkg. Coulda had a new vette, always loved the C4 bodystyle! I've also got a Z car and a couple sportbikes, one for the street, one that i roadrace. Hope ya find a vette you like, C5's have become very affordable and the LSx engines are incredible. I may well drop an LSx in my 84 next year. The 840 is a cool GT and actually a better car than the 850 by all accounts. Softer than the 928 but a better daily ride. Hope ya find a Vette again, there's a lot of difference in character between the c6 and c5, you should try em both.

Believe me I always have my eyes open, as a matter of fact there is an older lady, I say older lady I am 47 but she has a 96 I guess it's called hunter green convertible loaded to the max 10500.00 miles she only uses it on the Cape in the summer still has the original exhaust on it. I went by to see her about the car on this past Monday, she is thinking about it. If it works out I'll leave the Vette in the garage drive the BMW like I stole it and sell it. $23000.00 for the 840Ci what do you figure a loaded mint mint mint 96 convertible is worth? I thought $21000.00 at the very most????? When you say Z-car do you mean a 240,60 or 80z cause now you are talking my language, or do you mean Z-28

Well this should be interresting I just saw on one of out local news channels GM is expected to file bankruptcy in 2 weeks...lets hope this works out if it is true because confidence in GM is real bad now, and a very close friend works for them and he says moral is real real bad........

GM won’t make debt payment, bankruptcy ‘probable’Wednesday, April 22, 2009, 2:50pm PDT | Modified: Wednesday, April 22, 2009, 2:50pm from the sacramento business journal from today

What does this have to do with crossfire vettes?

It has zippo to do with CFI but it has worlds to do with GM and the last time I checked build them. Remember how shocked everyone was when the shut down Bowling greene for a few weeks, and again what all this does to morale. A happy UAW employee is a productive. I gotta ask, are you intimadated by me or something because you right to respond to me is 95% sarcastic. Also let me put it another way, how about ladies and gentlemen new for 2012 the All New completely New design introducing the Toyota Corvette....that is what is so scary about them....you never know

intimadated:boogie:boogie:boogie:boogie:boogie:boogie
sarcastic;shrug
UAW are over paid and the unions in this country are disappearing fast, they can't threaten these companies anymore, they have no leg to stand on. Go ahead go on strike, we will shut down the plant and build cars in Canada or Mexico.

Toyota corvette, I don't get it?

This still has nothing to do with crossfires, please stay on topic.

I gotta say it will be interesting to see how the GM Canada talks go and how GM usa problems may affect Canada then maybe your outlook will be slanted the other way. lets say they close plants in canada and stop building there how would that be? I am not and never been pro union but those same unions negotiated the contracts with the transplant companies and they are all americans building forgien cars for hrly not much less it is the legacy stuff killing GM. For every car GM sells take $1900.00 right off the top for legacy costs the same figure for the transplants is below $400.00. GM is selling some nameplates maybe I should have said an International Hummer H3, do you think if a company would overpay for Corvette they wouldn't sell???? Remember There is a task force now calling the shots Corvette would be gone.

I am still trying to figure out what some of these posts have to do with the Crossfire. There are other forums on this site that deal specifically with other topics.

WHILE YOU ARE POSTING INCORRECTLY, PLEASE SAVE THE :w!

i love my crossfire:beer... .... are we back on topic yet:thumb

cant one of you moderators put that set of posts where they belong

Back on topic! Back to the GM conspericy of the crossfire and why they put tiny ports on the intake manifold to make the TPI seem more powerful than the crossfire. When I get my renegade intake manifold that will fix everything.
