The cruise control on my 85 won't hold the speed. Does anyone know where the speed sensor is?

Have you checked the vacuum lines and all connections? Check those areas first before diving into anything more complicated. Sometimes it's the simplest of things that will be the problem. :CAC

I will check, but I believe the signal comes from the digital dash.

Ken is right. I think the cruise actuators are a bit problematic, too.

I believe the cruise controls work off the computer. If speedometor works it is in the vacume lines, the actuator itself or wiring . check in that order. The actuator is a common GM part. Mine didn't work when I got the vette, I just switched it out from my 89 Riv. It worked so just picked up one.

My cc didn't work at all when I got my 88 coupe. I followed advice on the forum and found the problem with a vacuum line that ran behind the distributor. Check it out first!:_rock

Also check the switch mounted to the brake pedal. Another of those "simple" things Ken mentioned.

When I got my 84 home I too did not have an operating cruise control. Found the problem to be a screw on the servo was missing causing the diaphram to leak air. It appears the previous owner removed the assembly to install a new battery and forgot this critical little piece of the puzzle. If your system works but the speed just seems to drift off I would suspect a slow air leak. I read an artical from a link off this site I believe entitled Corvette Clinic, how to diagnose your Corvettes Cruise Control. If I can find it again I'll post it for you. Good luck.

Thanks for all the great advice. Sorry I didn't get back sooner I have been on the road.

Check, check and check again...First look at the vacum. Check the cruise control diaphram ? (not sure of correct spelling) to ensure the "Rod" is hooked up to the throttle cable. Then check the electrial to ensure it is recieving the electrical signal. That is a starting point. Good Luck, Tim

Yepster, same here only my line was in front of the distributor and had worn through on the plenum.
