Wow....I think that's all I can say at the moment.
This year's CruiseFest was small in comparison to previous years, but no less fun and exciting!
I cannot thank Mike Yager, his wife and family, and the entire staff of Mid America Motorworks for putting on one hell of an event for us and making us feel warm and invited.
If you've never had the chance to visit Mid America Motorworks and the city of Effingham, you don't know what you're missing.
Mid America Motorworks is not just a brick and mortar structure, where you simply walk in, look at people's desks, some boxes in a warehouse, and a few pictures on the walls. It is an enormous facility with an incredible mini-museum and shop. The folks at Mid America don't just sell products for your Corvettes, but they help teach you how to use and install what you buy from them.
The grounds are awesome with plenty of parking and the staff is extremely helpful whether it's picking out a product, or simply making sure you're comfortable and have everything you need to make your experience there enjoyable.
Mike and his family have a beautiful home and once again, I'd like to thank them for inviting the Corvette Action Center members there on Saturday for a casual, poolside lunch. It was very cool to sit and listen to Mike about how he got into Corvettes in the seventies, and started his business from the ground up.
The Cameo Vineyard tour was awesome. (Thanks for the ride Deb!) The Cameo Vineyard is a very small winery on a hill. They explained the various types of grapes that they grow, how they make the wine and the various trials and tribulations of running a winery. We then got a chance to sample some of their wines. I tried approximately 6 different ones from a long menu of wines they make, and I can honestly say, I was not disappointed. This led to the purchase of two glasses of their chocolate porter.
The Seminars: WAY COOL! If there's was one thing I kept hearing over the weekend, it was that the seminars were awesome and extremely helpful.
Paul Koerner (c4c5specialist): YOU ROCK!
If Paul was not inside giving tech seminars, he was outside sweating his butt off fixing members' Corvettes. If I'm not mistaken, two of those repairs consisted of the replacement of a complete wiring harness, and I believe he fixed something like 14 or 16 cars in one day!?
Paul: A THOUSAND THANK YOUS!
The Saturday night banquet was awesome as Mid America hosted it in their employee cafeteria which is like another extension of their museum. Very cool inside!!
The food was awesome, the awards for Road Warrior and People's Choice handed out, and an award to Paul Koerner for his dedication to the Corvette hobby.
I also want to thank Lori Worman - Mid America Motorwork's Events Coordinator. Lori, thank you so much for everything you did this past weekend and the time you dedicated towards helping us pull this together.
I want to thank all of our members who made the trip out there this year. I honestly did not hear a single complaint, and the kudos for Mid America Motorworks and having them host the event, were endless!
Last but not least, I want to thank my staff here at the CAC. The award you presented me with Saturday night means more to me than words can describe. All of my Corvette memorabilia resides in my home office, downstairs. That award, now resides right on my fireplace mantle.
However, that award almost made me miss my flight.
TSA at Indianapolis were not very pleased with me, or the award, as it got flagged in my carry on (I didn't check luggage in). They pulled it out and looked at it, how should I say....like aliens trying to figure out what a chicken egg is. They turned it around, sniffed, put it up to their ear and wobbled it a little. I was waiting for them to start licking it! They proclaimed that because there was liquid in it, the entire bag was going to have to get checked in. So they escorted me all the way back to luggage check in at the front of the airport. I then had to wait in line to go back through security again.
Needless to say, I practically pushed the girl out of the way as she was starting to close the gate door to the plane. I'm lucky I didn't get tackled and arrested. LOL
The layovers sucked. The flights sucked. And Chicago-Midway is like a nuthouse. Yes I know.....I should have driven my Corvette.
However, you can't drive something that's only 1/18th scale.
SO: where is CruiseFest next year? See my next thread
