Can anyone help with this? I was inspecting my engine today and I found this disconnected plug. Located on the passenger's side of the air filter housing.

Thanks.

Does the outside temp. display in the LCD of the AC/Heater control head?

The picture looks like the plug that goes to the outside temperature sensor used by the HVAC Programmer to determine the outside temp.

That plug gets disconnected from the sensor when you remove the radiator shroud.
If it is the plug for the sensor and you reconnect it, you need to disconnect the negative battery cable for a couple of seconds then reconnect it. When you turn the ignition on the AC/Heater programmer will recalibrate. It takes around 30 seconds. You'll hear the air blend door motor while the calibration takes place.

If you lay on your back on the passenger side front and look under the air dam. Look at the passenger side of the AC condensor. You should see a small black plastic housing that contains a thermistor inside of it. That loose connector should plug into the sensor.

Thanks, I wonder if that is it but I do not have the electronic control head, I have the manual one. Would that still apply? I will have to check.

Just from the looks of the plug it might be the connector for your underhood lights. The plug goes in down on the fender. Check to see if your lights work. If they don't, trace the wire from the lights down to where it connects on our fender. When I have mine at a show and have the hood up I usually unplug the lights and that plug looks just like it.

Just worth a check.

Thanks Ron, that was also my first thought but the underhood lights work fine. When I get it up on jacks or the ramps I will be able to trace it. I do not have any DTC codes in the CCM or the ECM. I was told in a previous post that it may be the sensor plug for the outside air temp but I have the manual A/C control head. Just a matter of time I guess.

Thanks.

Hard to tell from the picture but if you had the C68 Auto AC the plug/connector to the outside temp. sensor would have two wires.

The two wires a black wire (sensor ground) and a Light Green/Black wire for the sensor output.

Since you have the C60 manual AC, the plug would not be used.

MAybe it has been sitting there all lonely for years, I dunno. Hey, would it be possible to swap out a C86 with a manual one? Would there need to be any special mods?

Would be way to costly. You'd need a different Control Head, HVAC progammer, inside out side temp. sensors, sun load sensor, Blower control module, a different wire harness etc....

Actually the C68 isn't that reliable. The C60 manual system is more reliable and easier to trouble shoot.

That must be it, Paul. I have a 96 with electronic control and there is no such un-plugged connector HOWEVER, my son's 96 LT1 has manual control and his DOES have the same un-plugged connector.

I suspect the same wiring harness works for cars ordered with either manual or electronic control and on cars ordered without the electronic control option that plug is just left hanging. Best I can come up with.

BTW, I posted another response to this question on another thread for you on how my investigation turned out on this issue.

Many thanks to both of you. I appreciate your help. I guess that little plug will sit there all by it's lonesome for the rest of it's days.:)

That plug IS for the outside temperature sensor on the C68 equipped cars

Thanks for all your help. It will be left where it is.

Paul
