1989 white conv
Hey guy's i am looking for some idea's to spruce up my vette over the winter when it sits idle for x amount of month's. I want to do some custom paint work on it. I have access to a body shop so i can pretty much get anything done that i want. The problem is this my vette is an 89 white conv. with a black top. I have blackouts on my lights,my exhaust tip's are black. I put the L98 pin striping on the hood but it need's something to make your head spin when it come's down the road. So i am looking for idea's from anybody on how to liven up the plain white paint. I don't like those big black solid stripes going down the hood. My interior is gray. I was thinking of some kind of pearls, or some kind of fade or take all the side moulding off fill it and put a graphic kit on but i think that would jap it to much. so give me some of your idea's i would like to see what you guy's and girl's come up with.
thanks Rich

My cousin who has always been starved for people to notice him bought a harley years back. Within 6 months he had replaced every possible part with a repro part with harley emblems all over it. Needless to say he took an american icon and turned it in a rolling billboard that in my opinion was embarrassing at best. What a shame.

GM spends millions on planning and design. And we get to buy this "art work" for a fraction of the cost. Keep your picasso, monet, and vangaugh..I have an american icon in my gargage that I would much rather wash and look at then drive ( I know it also has to be driven).

No mouldings....No aftermarket rims....No rear spoilers....no pinstriping...no flame jobs....

Having the time, money and ambition to repaint your car is awesome...congrats. If it was me...Id put a better then original 100% mint original color paint on it...

BEAUTIFUL....

Just one opinion...

Hi!
I painted my -92 coupe a month ago. The original yellow paintjob was a bit faded, but i still love that yellow colour, so i decided on painting it.....you guessed it: original yellow!
The guy in the paintshop suggested i should have flames on it, but i thought it would be a little over the top on a -92. ( I love flames though). So anyway, i opted for something discreet: a layer of red pearl on top of the yellow paint. I guess it sounds a little wierd to have red pearl on yellow, but the result on my car looks awesome! It really adds that little extra without ruining the original look! If you decide to paint your car white again it would look good with almost any pearl colour! I saw a Volvo ( yes, lots of ém here in Sweden ) painted white with blue peral on top, it looked great!

A blue pearl over white, interesting. There are so many pearls out there depending on what color you want it to look like when the sun hits it. Thanks for your suggestion and i will keep it in mind. I may try to get an old fender or something when i am ready and try different pearls with white to see what results i get.
thanks again

This is interesting.

I hate the color of my Vette, Charcoal? It looks more like stale root-beer!!! It is not the color that is so bad, it just has no flash. Even after wax and buff unless you park it under a 1,000.000,000 CP spotlight the metal-flake is absorbed by the background color.:mad

I have never changed the color of a car in 40+ years of driving however I am ready for a change. My interior is in showroom condition and Lt. Gray, any suggestions for a paint scheme? ;help

Spanishvetts,

With a light gray interior, there are many options for a change of exterior color..let your imagination run wild!! How about what GM should have put on a Corvette, but never did...a real Candy Apple Red??? We saw a C5 couple for sale last year in Carlisle, and the owner (a body shop guy) had done just that! The color was incredible. Go for it!!!

Rich, let's see some pictures of your new paint job...sounds great!

Hey Diesel 1456

It´s a good idea to paint a feder so you can see how it looks.
I´m really curious to what pearl you´re gonna go for!
Let us know when you have made your decision!
Good luck! It´s not easy to determine wich pearl to use!

Regards Micke :beer

Candy Apple red

I like the idea of a cany applke paint! I saw a Chevelle on a show here in Sweden with a paintjob just like that. I think the guy had a gold base colour to get the Candy apple look a bit "warmer"
It looked great!

I really appriciate everyone's input on paint idea's. My car won't be getting a facelift till like March or Apr. But knowing me that's how long it will take to decide on what i am going to do. I want to stay with my Artic white only because it's the original color and i really don't feel like painting door jamb's and all that stuff. When it is done i will definetly post a pic.
Thanks Again

To spanishvette if i had charcoal exterior i would go with either a pearl of dark blue or candy apple blue pearl or go with a fade from the black to the blue to like a lilock color follow the lines the hood would be all black then fade into candy apple blue then to lilock towards the bottom of the car all the way around and then clearcoat the s*** out of it.
just my thought if i had black
