Damage to my Corvette !!!

Yep...interesting enough, I have noticed some changes in SOME of my friends....obvious jealousy....but I just don't understand - they too could buy one....mine is just a '91 L98, White, stock, targa....but ya know what? It is MINE - I worked, I paid cash, I take care of it.....hmmmmm...maybe THAT's what the problem is....they are making payments(and interest) on their ricers, jags, and beemers.....stuff that when parked next to mine (that is paid for) just isn't noticed....

Yes there is alot of jealous people out there.. my friend bought a nice 94 mustang GT right.. and ever since I got my 95 vette he always puts it down saying the GT is faster blah blah blah.. BS 215 hp stock.. not it has a 3.73 gear set in it.. bit quicker but I know my 300+hp is no match.. anyway.. people are jealous and they can bite me.. I work my A$$ off fixing peoples daily drivers (most are rust buckets of joy) to pay for the car..

Anyway back to the topic at hand.. here is a little story..

one time a guy came into my shop for an"free oil change" he had a coupon only given out to people new in the area... we pulled the car straight into the bay.. he watch us the whole time... did the oil change pulled it out he was still watching.. as soon as I get it out the door is comes up to the car he is looking at the side of it (pass side) which he was watching the whole time.. as was asking me what the white poweder on the side was and how it got 3 little chips on it.. I never touched that side of the car.. he watched that side the whole time.. there was nothing in my shop that could have put the white power on the side (this was a small little power like powder sugar like a 2 by 4 inch area ) he wiped it off ad there was 3 small "stone chips" anyway...

the moral is some people are J/\ck A$$'$....

I'm not saying that the dealer did not damage that car I am just saying some times damage can occur and not be either the shop or owners fault..

I've had my pickup hit on the street infront of my house the door crunched and noone left a note or anything.. I've have my monte carlo's trunk dented (it was an aerocoupe can't get the trunk lid anywhere) and no note nothing.. people just don't care..

no I care because i love cars I mess something up I'm gonna tell you and hope you understand that accidents happen...

I recently also had occasion to need a GOOD body shop. I called insurance companies and the corvette dealers to find out where they took there vettes for body work, then I went and asked intelligent questions of the body shops. Turned out that I got an excellent one and my baby is as good as new. It wasn't free or even close but it was worth it to restore my pride and joy to like new status. Good Luck.

Had my 74 in the radiator shop one month after i bought it from my friend. They took the hood off and know they laid it on the top. It must have slid down the t-tops and the back end leaving big gouges. The paint was original always covered and garaged kept (looke dlike a mirror from 26 years of waxing and polishing) they called me and my wife made me stay home while she went down there. She coordinated the fix for it but its not the same. Sorry to hear about your car! My 96 was just painted by the dealer the black was fading in spots, looks like a factory paint job, sometimes you just luck out.

It definitely sucks when damage occurs to a customers vehicle.. Accidents happen no matter how careful you are.. Just keep that in mind.. I would consider a shop that owns up to their screw ups and yet does good work a GOOD shop. There are shops out there that do good work and won't admit to somthing like the above. those I wouldn't go back too.

LoL I'm still new in this field.. professionally that is.. I've been working on my own project since I was 16 but only been working professionally for about 2 1/2 years..

When I first started probably 3 weeks into this career I had an incident involving a I think it was a ford windstar, I found out it had a composite hood.. it came in for a free oil change so it was something I could easilly do.. well I racked it on the lift i left the hood open I thought it would clear the rafters but I was wrong I didn't think about it and i hit the hood on the rafter. left 2 small scratches in the front center of the hood and a crack in the middle off the hood.. very small damage.. but the hood was probably a 500$ job to spray and replace.. luckly the customer seemed ok with it.. we told her we would take care of the repairs. she said don't worry about it. and never cameback of course so all we lost was the value of the free oil change.. but my boss was pretty ****ed at me and I was too.. but I just have to keep in mind that accidents happen.

All Vette owners.... I'm sure all of us could tell some story of how our vette's have been damaged at one time are another. The fact is there are scum out there that are jealous of our ownership. But there is also some vette owners who make it bad for the rest of us. I believe most vette owners who care alot for the car are hard working people who have rewarded their efforts with a dream of vette ownship . Their the one's who wave at you when you wave. Help when you have a problem . Will stop if they see you broken down along side the road. But we must be ever on guard for the ones who like to deface what we have worked for. I feel for jblanowski because I know the feelings one goes through when your vette has been damaged and there is no one to take the responsibility for the damage. I know I feel like It's my fault when this happens to me because I wasn't more cautious. Just know that the rest of us have been in that boat with you and now it's time to let the repair healing take place. The best of luck in that quest

I am going to inspect my car EVERY time i get it back now.

I was thinking that perhaps taking pics with a polaroid camera of the car while the service guy is watching and filling out paperwork might be a way to help in this regards. The pics wouldn't be able to pick up any small nicks and dings but would show any kind of damage as substantial as yours. 5 or 6 pics around the exterior would preserve a record of the car's condition when you left it in their care. I would consider taking 2 sets while the service rep was there and hand him one set to keep with the paper work until you picked up the car.

You could call it a "dealers" incentive program.

Sorry to chime in a little late here, but are you still looking for a quality Corvette repair shop to handle this situation? I'm not sure how far you are from the NY border, but I do know of a Corvette Shop that is located in the Hudson Valley area - it's the shop that I take my own car to.

The owner has been working on Corvettes (both mechanically and cosmetically) for over 20 years and knows these cars inside and out. I recently had my factory hardtop repaired there.

You can take a look at a map and get a feel for how far he is from you and go from there. If I had the same damage to my car as you do, I would take it to Paul's business for repair.

If you do decide to make contact with him, ask to speak with him personally and tell him that Kim recommended him to you - I've known him for several years now.

Jbolenowski sorry you got to go thru this situation man, the person who did this is a coward and a really bad driver. I feel your pain. ad The best thing to do is to be persistant and bug them and do all you can to make them acknowledge what they did to you and how it hurt you. I wish you luck, it could happen to anyone of us.

Dude, that bites!! No offense, but it looks like that panel has had some (bad) paint work done on it anyways, so look on the bright side, it'll only look better!! Seems to have a lot of orange peel on the 3rd of those pictures.... Uh oh, better get Maaco
