Well I was hoping it was not my opti that was causeing the problems with the car. Well today the Opti-crap, craped. It was a new one too. Luckly I had my suspecions and I had ordered a new one on Wed, But this being Friday 13th, It did not arrive. Now I got to go get the car towed back to the house. It is sitting in a parking lot. I hope the UPS guy shows up with my new Opti soon. So much for the road trip I was going on.

You may or may not remember my thread about opti units on the 36 Ford I installed a late model LT-1 in last year. I had installed a new G.M. unit on the car when I first put the motor in. The car sat often, but had a host of driveablity issues. It had failed due to a bad water pump (which was also installed new when I put the engine in).

I feel your pain.

Check that water pump. If it has a slow weap on the bottom it can cause this problem.

UPS Rocks, So does The Last Detail Corvette Parts. How is this for timing. The Opti goes out today and 3 hours later the opti I order on Wed shows up. Who says Fri the 13th is bad.

You are going to replace the water pump....right?

I guarantee that is what failed the opti.

You can get a pretty decent replacement at NAPA, but I highly suggest the G.M. pump.

Optispark

Definatly replace the water pump while your in there. I've several vette buddies that regretted not changing the pump, especially if it's got a few miles on it.
Good Luck
Tom

The water pump is brand new. I replaced it when I had the engine out. I checked it, I did not see any leaks. I had a hell of a time getting it off. The only thing I could not get off tonight was the Crank Pulley. Any suggestions on how to get it out. Everytime I try to loosen the bolts the crank turns. Last time I did this, when the Hotcam went in, I had the engine out, It was alot easier then.

You are only going to remove the outer ring bolts, not the main center crank bolt. You should be able to get a quick snap pull on them and get them to start out.

I got it off. Its great what a hammer and some anger management can accomplish. Next Question. Looking at the back of the opti, there are three big grooves. Thats obviously where the bolts go. There are three small grooves. One is shapped like a rectangle and the other 2 are like hour glasses. Does the stud coming off the camshaft go into the rectangle one? I cant remember from the last time.
